Western Zone, situated on the scenic west coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, is hiring a full-time, salaried Pediatrician to join a stable and collegial group of three Pediatricians providing services to Corner Brook and surrounding area.

Western Memorial Regional Hospital, a brand new, state of the art, acute care hospital opened in June 2024, is a 164-bed regional referral centre for Western Newfoundland and provides services to a population base of approximately 80,000 people. At Western Memorial Regional Hospital, level 2 care is provided, and patients requiring tertiary care are transferred to the Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre. Inpatient care and on call services are provided to the hospital. Outpatient clinics operate from Western Memorial Health Clinic, which is off site.

The incumbent will conduct a full-scope, community pediatric practice and share the clinical work equally with the current staff. They will need to be experienced and proficient in newborn resuscitation and care, assessment of the acutely ill child, interpretation of diagnostic tests, prescription and monitoring of treatment, communication with colleagues. As a high proportion of outpatient referrals pertain to concerns of learning and behaviour, proficiency in this area is a must. Candidates with interest and experience in Developmental and Behavioural Pediatrics would be highly regarded. Opportunities exist to join teams specializing in Autism diagnosis and treatment of children and youth in alternate care.

Western Zone provides training courses for staff, including the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and will soon offer Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns (ACoRN). It is also a teaching site for Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador's Faculty of Medicine. The incumbent would participate in teaching and uphold the site's reputation for excellence in education.

Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Pediatrician with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (CPSNL), be a Fellow or eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and meet the credentialing requirements of Western Health's Division of Pediatrics.

Qualifications Required *Eligible for licensure as a Family Physician with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (CPSNL)
*Current ACLS certification and satisfy credentialing requirements of Western Health's Discipline of Family Practice.
*Experience working in an Emergency Room is an asset.

Remuneration and Benefits: This position is a specialist salaried position, the terms of which are outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association (NLMA). The salary range is $263,672-$285,596. Other avenues of income include an on-call stipend and an optional RRSP-based pension plan. Benefits include various types of paid leave and group health and dental insurance benefits.
