Demands, duties, qualifications
Duties: The Psychiatric Registered Nurse II is an integral member of a multidisciplinary treatment team which will use evidence-based approaches in the treatment of substance use disorder, mental illness and withdrawal management. The incumbent will complete comprehensive assessments, assist clients with taking, administering and delivering medications, educate clients regarding coping with side effects and drug interactions, and provide clients with treatment planning and support. The successful applicant will consult and work in partnership with other service providers and community agencies in the provision of service to clients of Humberwood clients.
As governed by provincial regulations, he/she practices in collaboration with the primary care physicians, psychiatrists, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive treatment for individuals experiencing addictions. The successful candidate will be committed to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and client safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements.
Q
ualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in nursing or a Registered Nursing Diploma from an approved school of nursing, supplemented by a Certification in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing from CNA.
- Significant (2-5 years) and current (within the last 5 years) experience in a mental health and/or addictions setting.
- Current registration with ARNNL is required
- Current BLS certification for health care providers from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
- Knowledge of psychiatric illness and current community mental health assessment and intervention techniques
- Demonstration of strong clinical skills in the areas of crisis intervention and supportive counselling to mental health clients and their families
- Knowledge of mental illness and addiction from bio-psycho-social perspectives, holistic and community approaches
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- The ability to work shift work and weekends and use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.
- A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is also required.
