Demands, duties, qualifications
Labrador Grenfell Zone is launching its first Midwifery Program in Happy Valley Goose Bay and is currently seeking Midwives who would like to join our team. We are seeking individuals who are committed to building a practice which can deliver comprehensive primary maternity care in collaboration with our health care team. The midwives will also provide support to Regional and Community Health Nurses and provide outreach to Indigenous communities in the region. This is an exciting opportunity for both new and experienced midwives. The Midwives are employees of Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services and will report to the Regional Director Acute Care Services.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a Canadian university Midwifery education program or equivalent in accordance with the requirements of the College of Midwives of Newfoundland and Labrador (CMNL) and Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals (NLCHP);
  • Current registration or eligible for registration with CMNL & NLCHP;
  • Prior Midwifery experience in Canada;
  • Consistent demonstration of Labrador-Grenfell's corporate values; Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Stewardship and Quality;
  • Collaboration and experience working with Indigenous communities, respect for Indigenous cultural practices and ways of knowing, and commitment to culturally safe care;
  • A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position;
  • A valid Newfoundland & Labrador class IV Driver's License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment;
  • The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check;

Duties: (Included but not limited to)

  • Provides comprehensive care to individuals and their newborns during the childbearing period;
  • Provides complete care during pregnancy, conducts births in the hospital or community setting and continues with postpartum care to individuals and their newborns for at least six weeks after birth;
  • Works collaboratively with Obstetricians, Nurses, Family Physicians, Pediatricians, Anesthetists, Lactation Consultants and other healthcare providers;
  • Responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care;
  • Demonstrates a commitment to safety and partners with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements;
  • Other related duties as required.

Incentives available for this position:

  • Signing Bonus of $8,000 one-year RIS, $16,000 two year RIS
  • Come Home Incentive of $50,000 with eligible ties to NL, $25,000 without ties to NL
