Department Overview
This position is part of the TD Insurance (TDI) Finance group. TDI Finance drives value by providing financial support across all of TD Insurance to ensure that key drivers of the business are quantified and well understood and that the right business decisions are made among competing options. This is a dynamic department that will play critical role in the ongoing success of TD Insurance. The successful candidate is expected to assist in fulfilling the group's mandate while demonstrating the Bank's Shared Commitments.
Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Consolidation, this position is primarily responsible for management P&L reporting and analysis as well as the consolidation of the annual Plan, quarterly Forecast, and Medium-Term Outlook. The individual will also assist with pan-Insurance reporting requirements and will work collaboratively with business unit finance partners in efficiently consolidating business unit data and extracting key business drivers to support the analysis and commentary of overall results in a clear, concise manner that will support the decision-making process. Key stakeholders include senior management of the Insurance Finance team, enterprise Finance partners and business leaders in TDI. The individual will also be the key contact person for any inquiries on TDI results. This role requires a skillset that can manage details in a high-pressure environment, work with minimal supervision, contribute to a positive work environment, and manage multiple tasks with varying deadlines. This position requires excellent communication skills with good business acumen, and a willingness to embrace change.
The role has a number of accountabilities which include, but are not limited to, the following:
Key Activities:
- Prepare, review, and enhance consolidated results, commentary and supporting analysis from LOBs for input to Flash, MOR, and other reports and ad hoc requests, with a focus on ensuring clear, concise value-add analysis by reviewing for reasonableness, identifying/extracting key business drivers, and framing an overall story.
- Understand business and market dynamics to anticipate impacts or near-term business decisions/trends to the P&L, while proactively identifying factors and drivers that influence results and metrics. Track and interpret performance through historical reference and scorecard/established targets.
- Manage executive messaging at the appropriate level with depth of knowledge to answer detailed questions. Act as key TDI Finance contact for any inquiries on TDI results.
- Manage the planning process in delivering the annual Plan, quarterly Forecasts, and Medium-Term Outlook on a consolidated basis in collaboration with LOBs within TDI.
- Coordinate with the Wealth & Insurance Finance team in producing Wealth & Insurance views as well as ensuring consistency across all reporting.
- Manage relationships with all business partners, Finance partners and other partners as required, responding to all queries as appropriate, ensuring accuracy of financial information, or coordinating the relevant actions required.
- Continuously improve finance processes, reporting capabilities and documentation to facilitate quick and timely responses to new requirements/requests from within Finance, Business Units, senior management, or the Bank, while ensuring compliance to internal policies and best practices to maintain data integrity.
- Participate in developing and implementing transformative initiatives such as enhancements of P&L reporting, automation, and report adaptation based on changing needs and priorities. Lead as appropriate in solving complex issues.
- Support special presentation material as required from time to time as they relate to the Finance function including Wealth & Insurance Senior Operating Committees, AVP+ Conferences etc.
- Review and/or prepare as appropriate any ad hoc analysis required to support interpretation and understanding of results.
Job Requirements
Qualifications/Skills/Experience
- 7+ years of relevant experience in a similar position involving both reporting and analysis
- CPA, CFA or relevant professional certifications, accounting designations considered an asset
- Highly motivated with an exceptional strong time management aptitude, and the ability to be flexible to adapt to dynamic and changing priorities within a fast-paced environment.
- Strong business acumen and analytical capabilities – ability to consolidate a large amount of information into clear, concise analysis and messaging
- Proactive self-starter with the ability to see issues warranting further review and analysis.
- Solid communication skills and the ability to select and interpret results, write clear and concise communications, and present information in a professional and impactful manner.
- Strong management skills and the ability to negotiate, problem solve and make decisions.
- A team player who is comfortable in a fast-paced work environment with an evolving mandate and can work well under pressure.
- Knowledge and/or experience working in the Insurance industry considered an asset.
- Strong working knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
