Responsible to the CH149 Engineering Manager for the conduct of life cycle management and engineering support of CH149 helicopter mechanical systems and components. This position shall provide technical support to helicopter mechanical systems which includes but is not limited to flight controls, main and tail rotor heads, transmissions and gearboxes, engines and the auxiliary power unit, hoist systems,hydraulics, and landing gear.
What You Will Do:- Provide engineering and technical support to Main Operating Base (MOB) personnel.
- Monitor the health of components and systems within assigned Air Transport Association (ATA) chapter of responsibility.
- Conduct effective communications and liaise on technical matters with representatives from MOBs, Department of National Defence, Original Equipment Manufactures, Design Support Network, and Design Authorities;
- Review and assess OEM design changes and provide recommendations on their implementation.
- Develop preventative measures, identify trends, and determine fleet impact on Flight Safety (FS) Occurrences.
- Develop and implement changes to the CH149 Approved Maintenance Program.
- Develop standard and non-standard repairs for damage to mechanical system components.
- Assess airworthiness risk including but not limited to, performing and managing airworthiness impact assessments (AWIA) and Records of Airworthiness Risk Management (RARM).
- Inform the Senior Design Engineer of in-service issues that are determined to result in degradation to aircraft safety.
- Support the activities of the department in respect to the CH149 Reliability Program, CH149 Corrosion Working Group and Mechanical Systems Integrity Monitoring Program.
- Perform and support maintenance program monitoring, maintenance rationalization, and maintenance requirements analysis.
- Identify performance criteria/objectives for CH149 equipment and systems, monitor in-service performance to these criteria, and recommend technical investigations to correct deficiencies or reduce life-cycle cost.
- Conduct activities associated with implementing and monitoring corrective action regarding service difficulty reporting, special inspections, service bulletins and airworthiness directives.
- Provide support and technical input to major program meetings including Technical Working Group Meetings, International User Group Conferences, and Maintenance Review Meetings.
- Prepare engineering reports and technical memorandums.
- Perform engineering approval (when authorized).
- Perform airworthiness functions as a Design Engineer (when authorized).
- In extraordinary circumstances and when required by operational necessity, provide weekend and after-hours support to SAR Ops.
- Other tasks as assigned.
- B.Eng. or B.Sc. (Eng.), or CET (Diploma in Engineering Technology), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer, or CET, is desirable.
- 1-2 years of engineering experience is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of or interest in rotary wing aircraft mechanical systems is considered an asset. Systems include flight controls, main and tail rotor heads, transmissions and gearboxes, hoist systems, hydraulics, landing gear and engines/auxiliary power unit is considered an asset. On The Job training will be provided.
- Experience in an aircraft engineering environment is an asset.
- Possess clear and effective written and oral communication skills.
- Good project management skills.
- Sound interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with people at all levels, both within the organization and those in outside agencies.
- Must possess good self-discipline with an ability to work independently when required.
