Position Overview:

Responsible to set-up and operate machine shop equipment and tools to produce, manufacture and/or repair aircraft and aerospace components in accordance with customer or engineering specifications, Company procedures, SWIMS, etc. This includes newly manufactured and pre-fabricated aircraft parts.

What You Will Do:
  • Read, analyze and interpret samples, blueprints, drawings, sketches, customer specifications and/or Company workplace instructions, manuals, etc. to determine output specification and/or to plan work procedures and tooling requirements per work orders, customers' specifications and engineers' drawings.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, grinders and select and grind appropriate cutting tools in accordance with the hardness, machine ability and other properties of parts or material to be machined.
  • Perform lay-out work, make sketches, calculate and determine dimensions, tapers, indices and other relevant data using shop formula and handbooks.
  • Take measurements, locate and mark reference points/holes, etc. for cutting or shaping and select appropriate machine (i.e. lathe) and position or load material for job task.
  • Check and take work measurements using measuring instruments (i.e. gauges, micrometers, calipers, etc.) following blueprint, customer specifications, engineering drawings, SWIMS, shop drawings, etc. and drill, scribe and trim accordingly.
  • Measure, examine and check output to ensure consistency with specifications, and in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
  • Interact with Supervisor and Charge Hand by communicating and receiving instruction in the transition of the workflow and production work scheduling; to assess current material needs and/or to address any problems accordingly.
  • Perform routine maintenance on work equipment by cleaning and lubricating machine, tools and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains and foreign matter; keep tools, equipment and immediate work area(s) in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
  • Maintain and wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) applicable to the area you will be in or the operation or task you are about to conduct. Maintain a clear-shaven face at all times during any activity requiring the use of a respirator.

What You Will Bring:
  • Completion of High School (Grade 12);
  • Completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or equivalent experience and/or training.
  • Knowledgeable of mathematics and mechanics as well as respect for safety precautions.
  • Must possess a high level of manual dexterity, attention to detail and a strong interest in aircraft/aerospace production, repair and/or overhaul.
  • Completion of Global Harmonized System (WHMIS) course.
  • Completion of an aircraft blueprint course or have demonstrated 'tested' ability to read aircraft blueprints.
  • Must be able to work with others co-operatively and follow directives precisely.
  • Knowledge of processes, products and equipment and ability to read blueprints and engineering documentation will be considered an asset,
  • Applicants with the above qualifications may be required to successfully demonstrate their ability.
  • Must be eligible to meet the requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and the Canadian Security Clearances.
