The Department of Accounting and Commercial Law in the Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary's University invites applications for one tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The proposed start date is July 1, 2025.
Job Information and Responsibilities
Currently the Department has a particular need for expertise in the areas of Commercial Law and/or Management Accounting. The successful applicant should have strong research credentials and aspire to be an outstanding teacher. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in accounting or law in hand or be nearing completion. Admission to the Bar in a Canadian province and/or a professional accounting designation is expected. While a specialty in either Commercial Law or Management Accounting is required, the department may give preference to those with complementary expertise to research or teach in other focus areas such as taxation, corporate governance, or sustainability. A track record of, or potential for, scholarly research and publication in respected academic journals is expected.
Demonstrated excellence in, or an aptitude for, teaching business law or management accounting at the undergraduate level is expected. Teaching responsibilities may include the coordination of multi-section classes at the undergraduate level. Other teaching duties at the undergraduate or graduate level will be determined based on the successful candidate's background, interests, and program needs.
Salaries are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Saint Mary's also offers a wide range of employee benefits such as start-up funding for research, and a reduced teaching load in the first two years of appointment. Teaching load reductions may continue if externally funded with SSHRC, CIHR, or NSERC grants, for example. Most importantly, we offer a collaborative and collegial work environment.
Application Details
Applicants must submit: (1) letter of application, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) sample of recent scholarly writing, (4) teaching portfolio including recent teaching evaluations, (5) names and full contact information of three referees and (6) indication of Canadian citizenship or permanent residency status. All submitted materials must be consolidated into a single PDF attachment and sent by e-mail to Dr. Hong Fan, co-chair, Department of Accounting [email protected]. A copy should also be sent to the Department secretary [email protected]. Applications will be reviewed beginning Jan. 15, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. If you require accommodation during the recruitment process, please contact Human Resources at [email protected].
