Job Description:

Department Overview

The Global Compliance Department is responsible for overseeing regulatory compliance across TD Bank Group (TDBG) in accordance with the Global Compliance Operating Framework. The team is accountable for promoting regulatory compliance by developing and maintaining compliance programs, including identifying and disseminating regulatory developments to businesses they support, maintaining Compliance policies, managing complaints and regulatory filings, providing relevant training, carrying out independent monitoring and oversight activities, reporting on the state of compliance to the Board, Ultimate Designate Person (UDP) and senior management, as needed, and providing advice and support, as required.

Team Overview

The Business Management & Governance team within Global Compliance provides business and financial insights, strategic planning, business management coordination, and facilitates One TD relationships across Global Compliance and Risk Management. The team plays a key role in the Global Compliance strategy development and implementing pan-Compliance initiatives through data insights and executive reporting.

The Role & Key Accountabilities

Reporting to the AVP, Business Management & Governance, this role is pivotal in maintaining and providing financial analytics, business planning and coordination across the Global Compliance team. The successful candidate is familiar with a business P&L to identify trends and opportunities, is effective at engaging multiple business and support function stakeholders and is comfortable interacting directly with an executive audience.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for partnering with Risk Management, Global Compliance leaders and key stakeholders to facilitate development of the financial plan for Global Compliance. The successful candidate will drive financial discipline across Compliance by surfacing insights to support effective expense management via the following accountabilities:

  • Owns effective FTE management and reporting – identification of themes and insights to address; including oversight of vacancy rates/root cause analysis by Compliance team to identify emerging risk; identifies opportunities to manage headcount and remove obstacles to timely recruiting.
  • Owns Finance management of Business-as-Usual (BAU), Run-the-Bank (RTB) and Change-the-Bank (CTB) budgets and project budgets. Ongoing examination of expense opportunities.
  • Owns Compliance Department Business Planning, including annual Strategic submitted to Audit Committee of the Board, and alignment to RMLT priorities, including management of quarterly progress reporting to CCO and Deputy CCO to support the business plan.
  • Development of deeper expense profiles to support annual and longer-term planning, including the development of clear methods of control for expense pools and an always-on approach to surface efficiencies for scale and expense optimization.
  • Support of the annual strategic planning process, quarterly business deep dives and forecasting, and ongoing monthly business reviews to uncover anomalies, surface insights and identify opportunities.
  • Development of a financial acumen program for leaders and colleagues across Compliance through forums and resources to drive awareness of financial concepts, business casing, drive business financial hygiene and conduct effective cost center management.
  • Provide functional / business level communications to ensure messages to stakeholders and/or employees are consistent, appropriate and aligned to business strategies and executive management direction.

Job Requirements

This role requires an individual who can problem solve, show strong judgment to execute, drive positive change through critical thinking, innovation, and employee empowerment. Additionally, the successful candidate will be:

  • Knowledgeable in financial strategy and planning with hands-on experience preparing and presenting strategic updates for senior executives.
  • Comfortable operating in a dynamic, fast-paced, and sometimes ambiguous environment, while willing to voice an opinion and take a stand on critical issues
  • Able to independently manage deadlines and oversee deliverables while multitasking between projects.
  • Effective communicating clearly and concisely (written and verbally) to a broad audience, including senior executives.
  • Extremely comfortable reviewing large volumes of data for consistency and accuracy, as well as with various analytical approaches to prepare recommendations.
  • Advanced in PowerPoint and Excel skills and possess strong modelling capabilities.

Education / Experience

  • Post-secondary undergraduate degree in a business or finance related program required
  • MBA degree is considered an asset
  • 10+ years experience in Financial Services would be considered an asset
