The salary scale for Professional Support 4 is based on steps that range from $74,104.27 - $98,521.32. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $86,294.89 annually.
What you will be doing…
Reporting to the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Advisor, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Accessible Teaching, you will:
- Provide tailored educational support to faculty by working closely with them to enhance teaching practice and implement strategies that increase accessibility and overcome barriers to learning in a variety of complex and nuanced teaching circumstances. You will provide customized coaching and consultation that is both proactive and reactive depending on the specific needs of the faculty, program and/or students.
- Apply expertise in accessible teaching practices and collaborate with team members to recognize the overlapping challenges and intersectionality experienced by students from equity deserving communities with a focus on barrier reduction.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and tackle learning barriers through various means such as consultation, creating resources, facilitating professional development opportunities, or referring to relevant support services.
- Your expertise is grounded in the integration of equitable teaching frameworks/lenses and evidence-based practices and can be applied to support in especially complex teaching situations.
- Work closely with the Accessibility Services team to improve student experience and enhance collaborative relationships between stakeholders.
- Lead professional development initiatives focused on accessible teaching strategies, implementation of accommodations, and/or Universal Design for Learning.
- Provide support to Faculty in non-traditional teaching and learning environments such as workplace learning models.
Qualifications and Occupational Experience:
- A Bachelor of Education is required for this position. Documented participation in formal education and/or professional learning related to accessibility, equitable teaching, inclusive education, social justice, disability studies and/or reducing barriers for students from equity deserving communities is an asset.
- You have a minimum of 7 years (full-time equivalent) combined experience in teaching, implementing individualized learning supports, and working with individuals with disabilities/exceptionalities. Lived experience with learning barriers is an asset.
- Formal or informal experience in coaching and/or consultation with demonstrated commitment to equity and reducing barriers for students.
- Ability to apply Universal Design for Learning principles and other equity frameworks to teaching practice.
- Proficiency in applying a variety of research and evidence-based teaching practices to practical application with complex nuances in the learning environment.
- Occupational experience in a variety of teaching contexts would be considered an asset.
- You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience. You are proficient in Microsoft Office 365. Experience with Zoom, Peoplesoft and Brightspace are assets.

As a condition of employment, Professional Support employees at NSCC must complete a part-time adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status; all probationary, full or part-time Professional Support employees of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Professional Support employees whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
