Responsibilities

What you'll be doing…

Reporting to the Program Director, and working in a team environment, you will:

  • Develop applied research and innovation capacity at NSCC by carrying out applied research in partnership with business and industry in the private and public sectors. Research outcomes are aimed at project-based teaching; community betterment as well as commercializing technologies that result from applied research projects generated by the College.
  • Manage and coordinate a wide range of applied research projects and related activities.
  • Assist the Program Director in meeting applied research obligations related to external grants and contract funding.
  • Assist the Program Director in the development and implementation of applied research collaborations with industry partners.
  • Work externally with industry and other business partners and work internally with faculty, staff, and students to meet the milestones and deliverables on research project contracts.
Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is an advanced diploma or undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics engineering.
  • A master's degree would be considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of 5 years (full-time equivalent) of occupational experience in a research and development environment which includes fieldwork and/or within industry.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite and email.
  • Experience as a project manager coordinating multi-disciplinary applied research projects involving external partners and including subcontractors.
  • Experience working with industry and research partners in a collaborative project context.
  • Experience writing technical reports in collaboration with other researchers.
  • Experience overseeing data collection over sea ice with aerial drones would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working with post-secondary students in applied research setting to create rewarding and productive projects would be considered an asset.

  • Familiarity with provincial and federal funding programs.
