AirPro SAR Services is currently seeking a Design Engineer to join our team in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. As a joint venture between Airbus Defence and Space and PAL Aerospace, we are unwavering in our commitment to the success of Canada's Fixed Wing Search and Rescue Aircraft Replacement (FWSAR) program. At AirPro, we manage all Integrated Support Services (ISS) activities—encompassing engineering, logistics, maintenance, IT systems, infrastructure, and material support—throughout the entire product lifecycle. Our dedicated team ensures that Canada's state-of-the-art search and rescue aircraft are always mission-ready, performing at their peak when it matters most.

In this role, you'll be the engineering backbone that ensures our aircraft rise to every challenge, equipped to handle whatever the mission demands. You'll collaborate closely with the OEM and maintenance teams to address engineering activities related to our In-Service Support operations. While your focus will be on Structures and Mechanical Systems, you'll also have the opportunity to contribute to other engineering areas as needed. A strong engineering team is vital to creating a robust search and rescue program, and we need your ingenuity and expertise to achieve this goal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to effectively support the Engineering deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with the Technical Airworthiness Manual (TAM) for all Structures and Mechanical Support System activities.
  • Tackle airworthiness issues related to design changes, develop Special Inspections, and implement Service Bulletins for Structures and Mechanical Systems.
  • Coordinate engineering tasks with personnel within the Acceptable Technical Organization (ATO).
  • Participate in Engineering and Airworthiness Working Groups, as well as Technical Review Meetings.
  • Support the OEM in maintaining the Aircraft Structural Integrity Monitoring Program and the Mechanical Systems Integrity Monitoring Program.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for technical problems, both on-site and remotely.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support customer-driven initiatives.

Required Education, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree in engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in aerospace engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and structural repair concepts.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, both in person and virtually.
  • Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain security clearance.
  • Willingness to travel within Canada and internationally as required.
  • Comfortable working in a hybrid environment.

Preferred Qualifications (Assets):

  • Experience with the C-295.
  • Familiarity with DND programs or previous work with DND.
  • Knowledge of the DND Technical Airworthiness Manual.
  • Understanding of avionics and powerplant systems.
  • Experience in ATO or ADO settings.
  • Proficiency in additional languages such as French or Spanish is a plus.

What We Offer:

  • Comprehensive health benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
  • Defined Contribution Pension Plan.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
  • Personal travel privileges with PAL and interline agreements with other airlines.
  • Employee Tuition Assistance Program.
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program.
  • A hybrid working model (50/50), allowing for a minimum of 50% of your time in the office and up to 50% working from home.
