JOB SUMMARY:
The New Brunswick Youth Orchestra, Inc. (NBYO) is seeking a Director of Finance to join our team. The ideal candidate will live the mission, vision and values of the NBYO and contribute to the wellbeing of children and youth and communities throughout New Brunswick. Under the direction of the President & CEO, the Director of Finance will partner with the Executive Management Team (EMT) implementing the multi-year development plan that supports the organization's ambitious plans of program expansion.

EXPECTED START DATE: ASAP

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage all financial accounting systems and ensure all systems, processes and internal controls are functioning as planned.

Maintain and continuously improve system of financial controls, including general accounting, fund accounting, investment accounting, compliance, budgeting, banking, payroll and benefits.

Provide timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, project reports and other reports.

Provide KPIs and financial analysis to EMT members and program directors to enable reporting against budget, performance targets and strategic initiatives

Manage / prepare and process supplier payments and customer invoices and payments.

Translate the annual program goals and objectives and prepare annual operational and capital budgets.

Update annual, campaign and multi-year forecasts as required.

Manage banking and investment manager relationships.

Ensure that all statutory reporting and remittances are met, including Canada Revenue Agency (HST/GST, Public Service Bodies' Rebate, Payroll withholding taxes) Charities Directorate (T3010), and Provincial returns. Prepare and file annual SOCAN returns.

Monitor donations and grants and ensure they are accounted for in accordance with the established funds and terms and conditions of the donors and grantors.

Oversee annual external audit and prepare all supporting information required by the NBYO external auditors.

Assist the CEO and the Board Treasurer with the preparation and presentation of financial and other reporting at Board meetings, and the Annual General Meeting.

Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.

Monitor risk management policies and procedures to minimize program and organizational risks. Lead annual EMT risk register update and review insurance coverage with the NBYO's insurer on a regular basis.

Lead IT function, and evaluate the need for new technology to meet the organization's information, control, reporting and financial requirements.

Act as Systems Administrator for Google Workspace and Sage50.

Assist in special projects / perform other duties as assigned by the CEO.

Be prepared to wear a lot of hats and roll up your sleeves.

Flexible time, including evenings and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Post-secondary degree or diploma in finance, accounting, business administration or a related field of study.

Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and/or an MBA is preferred.

5+ years of professional experience, ideally in the not-for-profit sector, with fund accounting and project accounting

Skilled in the Microsoft Office Suite of products, especially Excel, PowerPoint and Word

Familiarity with accounting software (e.g. Sage50, QuickBooks, etc.)

Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken English. Written and spoken French is desirable.

Team oriented - working with artists and educators focused on our mission, vision and values and not necessarily the bottom line.

Energetic, positive, and able to work under pressure. Excellent organizational skills.

Equally comfortable in strategic and hands on roles - be prepared to roll up your sleeves.
