The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Analyst, Coop Student to join our Central Lab team in Sudbury operation.

This is an 8 month-fixed term co-op position starting in either January or May 2025.

As a Student Analyst, support the department in delivering safe, timely and cost-effective analytical services by performing chemical and instrumental analyses on a diverse range of samples using various types of instrumentation.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Improve analytical methods in consultation with more senior laboratory personnel and the Lab Supervisor.
  • Adhere to all requirements outlined in the Lab's Quality Management System and comply with the ISO 17025 Standard – General Requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.
  • Meet customer requirements as prescribed in service level agreements, provide basic information to customers and answer routine inquiries from customers.
  • Perform chemical and instrumental analyses on various samples in accordance with established methods (technologies and preparations include but are not limited to: FAAS, GFAAS, XRF, LECO, MALVERN/PSD, Electroplating, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, IC, GC, Colorimetry, Gravimetry, Fire Assay, Titrations, and Digestions.) .
  • Carry out work of limited scope and complexity while assisting and learning from more experienced personnel.
  • Solve problems using mathematical concepts and numerical equations, track trends and variances leveraging the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and interpret data using Excel.

About You

Education:

Currently enrolled and in good standing in a Science College or University Co-op program.

Experience:

Experience in an industrial environment would be considered an asset

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Must be obsessed with safety and risk
  • Demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work
  • Develop skills and abilities related to the provision of engineering to Ontario Operations
  • Ensure compliance to the applicable regulations, standards and guidelines
  • Maintain a high level of professional conduct
  • Complete assigned projects safely and on time. Project work may include engineering document scanning, engineering standard editing, data analysis and reporting
