JOB SUMMARY:
This position reports directly to the GeoInformatics Team-Lead.
This position is required to perform data collection, data maintenance and quality assurance, map production, spatial data integration, data analysis, data documentation/metadata, and GIS support. The individual will be responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of municipal geospatial assets.
Starting Salay range: $52,961 - $62,313

EDUCATION:
- High School graduate or equivalency.
- Successful completion of a technical course in a field related to municipal engineering, geomatics or Geoinformatics that is accredited by the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists at the Technologist level, or must be eligible to become a member and maintain membership in the Association as a professional technologist (PTech or CET).
- A university degree in geography, computer science, earth sciences or a related area would be considered an asset.
EXPERIENCE:
- Must have a minimum of four (4) years of work experience related to GIS, information technology and/or Geoinformatics. The required experience can be a combination of related work experience and course experience at the college or undergrad level.
- GIS programming and scripting experience would be considered an asset.
- Experience with web mapping development would be considered an asset.
LANGUAGE:
- English essential. The ability to communicate in both official languages is considered an asset, but is not a requirement for this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- This position requires a strong working knowledge of geographic information systems software (i.e. ESRI) including all related software and processes required for the assembly, analysis, storage, display and dissemination of spatial information.
- This role may require working with CAD and survey data. Training and/or experience with AutoCAD and survey technologies would be an asset.
- The individual must have the ability to keep up to date on GIS technology and other related systems used by the City of Moncton.
- Ability to utilize standard administrative programs (Microsoft Office) is required.
- Ability to complete a variety of technical assignments and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
- Ability to prioritize tasks is essential for completing work relating to data analysis, data collection and entry, mapping, interpretation of drawings, editing and maintenance of datasets and other duties as assigned.
- Attention to detail is significantly important for persons working in this position. Errors will cause inconvenience and could escalate to corporate embarrassment, delays in work schedules or bad decisions to be made.
- Persons in this position must have the ability to take on new tasks as technology progresses, and are expected to keep up to date with the technology, particularly in the field of GIS technology and other related systems used by the City of Moncton.
- Good understanding of business process in order to advise senior staff on best practices, and asset data enhancements and/or use.
OTHER:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 New Brunswick driver's license.
SUPERVISION:
- No direct supervision is required. The individual may be required to train students and other staff in the use of GIS tools.
CONTACT:
- Work requires contact with City employees, the general public, other levels of government, and professionals from the private sector.
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills are essential for this position.
- Must be able to work individually, with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
CONDITION OF WORK:
- Work requires a high level of attention with long periods of concentration.
- Minimal physical effort is required and is primarily performed under office conditions. Work may also be performed outside with exposure to inclement weather, vehicular traffic and occupational hazards, particularly on construction sites.
- Hours of work as per the CHEA/PSAC Local 60200 Collective Agreement. Work outside of normal working hours may be required from time to time.
- Occasional travel may be required.
