Recreation Worker (Full-time)
Implements cognitive, physical, social, spiritual and emotional programs to promote and maintain the maximum level of independence and activation of the residents at Mount St. Joseph.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Assists the Director in planning, organizing and implementing recreation programs and events for resident's based on their assessed needs and interests.
· Promotes programs and encourages residents to participate.
· Keeps an accurate record of activity statistics.
· Performing administrative tasks such as filling paperwork as required and answering telephone calls.
· Assists in organizing and implementing programs for residents to participate in community outings and events.
· Sets resident's up for success for those who prefer to engage in self-directed leisure.
· Setting up recreation equipment such as tables, chairs, supplies etc.
· Cleans up equipment, materials and supplies after programs.
· Porter's residents to recreation programs and returns residents to their designated neighborhood.
· Shows others how to perform tasks or duties as part of the departmental orientation for staff, students and volunteers.
· Maintains a clean and safe work area.
· Assisting residents during programs as needed.
· Ensuring resident safety.
· Other duties as assigned by the Director.
Desirable Training and Experience
- High school diploma/GED with post-secondary education in recreation therapy, gerontology or other related health care background preferred.
- Experience in a similar role.
- Comfortable working with older adults.
- Excellent communication, organization, creativity, interpersonal and public speaking skills.
