WHAT WE OFFER

Full-time | 1-Year Term | Saint John | On-Campus

Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 8:00 am - 4:30 pm | 40 hours per week

Additional Working Conditions:

  • This position is a 25/25/25/25 time split of utility worker duties along with emergency shower & eyewash inspections. This includes fire extinguisher checks that are regulated by Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
  • Must have the physical capacity to carry out the functions of the position, including the ability to lift heavy objects, work from ladders, at heights or in cramped quarters.
  • A degree of skill in moving and transporting materials and equipment is a requirement.
  • Tasks include working indoors or outdoors under varying conditions, at heights or in confined spaces.

Salary Range: $19.66 - $23.20 per hour

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Building Operations Manager, Utility Worker PL3 (Emergency Shower Inspector) conducts all tasks associated with emergency showers, eye wash inspections, and fire extinguisher checks in all buildings, including inspection, testing and tracking.

  • Set up, dismantle, remove/relocate, repair, and maintain furniture and equipment across campus; monitor the state of furniture and equipment and take necessary action to ensure repair and/or replacement, as needed.
  • Oversee and execute daily work orders.
  • Collect and deliver new and used materials, including hazardous materials, dangerous goods, lab equipment, kitchen appliances, office furniture, etc.
  • Coordinate and install office furniture and repair fixtures and fittings across campus (e.g., desks, chairs, cabinets, whiteboards, shelving).
  • Install signage inside buildings and outside on campus grounds.
  • Operate Genie lift and perform duties from aerial work platforms, as required. This includes repairing light fixtures, ceiling tiles, flag poles, etc.
  • Operate light vehicles or small tractors to complete daily tasks as needed.
  • Assist with re-lamping light fixtures in gyms, pools and dining halls.
  • Apply safety precautions to ensure minimum hazard to self and others.
  • Operate and maintain assigned tools and equipment.
  • Perform emergency shower and eye wash inspection duties, including weekly inspections and operation (activating) emergency shower, eyewash stations, combination units, and drench hoses weekly as per WSNB regulations.
  • Document all weekly testing and provide regular records and reports to the supervisor.
  • Performs fire extinguisher inspections. Inspect all fire extinguishers on campus and conduct an annual inspection that requires valid testing and documentation of all fire extinguishers to ensure compliance. Provide regular records and reports to the Building Operations Manager.
  • Other Duties as required.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Training in safe lifting practices is essential.

Additional Strengths

  • General knowledge of maintenance tools and equipment.
  • General knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices necessary for heavy lifting and labour work.
  • Knowledge of windows excel and word.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, both independently and in conjunction with other service personnel.

  • Ability to anticipate and deal with problems and issues persistently.

  • A minimum valid class 5 license would be an asset.
