Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban studies, Project Management, or related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in Park Planning, Landscape Architecture, and/or Project Management.
  • Experience in Municipal Park Development, Construction and Operations.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training would be considered.
  • Valid Class V drivers license.

The City of Fredericton, Engineering & Operations Department, has an exciting opportunity to join the dedicated and dynamic Parks & Trees team as a Parks & Open Space Architect. In this role, you would work closely with the Recreation Division, and where appropriate the Planning Department to lead in any one or all the following phases: planning, development, redevelopment, design and construction of projects within our park facilities and urban public realm.

Reporting to the Manager, Parks & Trees, the Parks & Open Space Architect will help guide the City's long-term direction on existing Park Implementation Plans such as the Killarney Lake and Odell Park Management Plans, Carleton & Wilmot Park plans, and many new and exciting park projects within our park facilities and urban public realm. This role requires a strong blend of strategic thinking, project management expertise, and a passion for creating bold and exceptional outdoor experiences for the community.

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to design and implement projects that enhance park facilities, amenities, and infrastructure, aligning with organizational goals.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, architects, landscape designers, engineers, and contractors to ensure park facilities, amenities, and infrastructure, align with organizational goals.
  • Conduct thorough research on industry trends, innovative park design, and sustainable practices to integrate into planning efforts.
  • Manage all phases of project lifecycle, including detailed design, budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, risk management, and quality assurance.
  • Work closely with local authorities, community stakeholders, and public agencies to obtain permits, approvals, and funding for park projects.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, identifying potential roadblocks and proposing solutions to ensure timely completion and delivery of high- quality results.
  • Participate in community engagement efforts, including public meetings and workshops to gather input and build support for park development initiatives.
  • Foster partnerships with external organizations, non-profits, and educational institutions to enhance programming and events with park spaces.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of comprehensive park master plans, considering factors such as site analysis, community needs, environmental impact, and long-term sustainability.

What You Bring:

  • Strong relationship-building skills, commitment to learning, effective communication, customer focus and inclusiveness
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
  • Familiarity with CPTED principles and park safety strategies.
  • Experience in Park Planning, Landscape Architecture, or Project Management, particularly within municipal operations.
