About Our Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician (Electrician) is responsible for carrying out those duties normally associated with the trade(s) in which they have become qualified under the Apprenticeship and Tradesman's Qualifications Act of the Province of Nova Scotia (inter-provincial certifications), including but not limited to installing, repairing and maintaining electrical, fixtures and other electrical service systems in buildings within NSPHA Northern District. The incumbent may also be responsible for maintenance duties which include carrying out material and equipment installations, renovations, repairs and servicing in the following areas - plumbing, heating, painting, carpentry, and ventilation under the jurisdiction of NSPHA.
- Install, repair and maintain electrical/wiring systems, equipment and fixtures. This could include emergency lighting, fire alarm systems, intercoms, electrical controls, and generators.
- Ensure all installation requirements meet the relevant legislation code.
- Review wiring diagrams, blueprints and other building plans and specifications to determine the layout for electrical and related materials.
- Test electrical systems and replace circuit breakers and fuses, plug receptacles, and switches. Must be able to troubleshoot and repair wiring, and bend and cut conduit.
- Carry out preventative maintenance to all buildings, appliances, fixtures, utilities and equipment in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.
- Prepare and complete documentation such as work orders, vehicle reports, maintenance logs, inspection reports, and inventory records.
- Provide recommendations regarding the replacement and acquisition of materials and equipment.
- Monitor contractors engaged to carry out maintenance contracts.
- Maintain buildings in clean and proper order.
- Other assigned duties.
- Certificate of qualification under the Apprenticeship and Tradesman's Qualifications Act of the Province of Nova Scotia or interprovincial certification (Red Seal Journeyperson certification) plus three years' experience in building and property maintenance or related field is required.
- Must have strong math skills with knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, physics and shop.
- Good knowledge of planned maintenance procedures as well as an awareness of building codes, municipal by laws, Provincial Acts and Regulations such as Workers' Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and appropriate fire regulations.
- Communication skills, both verbal and written and interpersonal skills are required in dealing with tenants, staff, and contractors.
- Possess competencies in computer applications such as Microsoft Office.
Assets
- Emergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.

Salary Range: $25.61 to $30.09 Hourly
