Manager, Claims Services

We are currently looking for a Manager, Claims Services. You will be responsible for the effective and efficient management and delivery of programs, services and benefits for all lost time claims in an assigned unit within Claims Services. You will also be responsible for ensuring that decisions and client services are coordinated and delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner and in compliance with WorkplaceNL's policy and standards.

Role Responsibilities

  • Ensures the timely, effective and efficient management of benefits, programs and services to stakeholders of the system in a cost-effective manner.
  • Coordinates, delivers, monitors and evaluates all programs and services that ensure expedient medical recovery and promote early return to work and rehabilitation services.
  • Ensures the highest level of customer service by promoting a quality service-oriented approach in the provision of services to clients.
  • Provides a work environment that supports employee engagement, motivation and commitment.
  • Develops, monitors and implements appropriate programs and services that will aid decision-makers in fulfilling their objectives.
  • Ensures that benefits are correctly adjudicated in accordance with established WorkplaceNL procedures and policies and that payments are made within established timeframes.
  • Keeps abreast of current relevant WorkplaceNL information and trends to ensure appropriate and effective management and continuous improvement of assigned areas.
  • Liaises with the Policy, Planning and Internal Review Department to identify areas for new policy and procedure development or changes to existing policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that specific outcomes as they relate to the relevant goals and objectives of the strategic plan are achieved by providing appropriate evaluation and reporting.
  • Adopts a change management strategy to facilitate and coordinate, integration of projects into claims management practices and processes, as well as delivery of service and programs to stakeholders.
  • Fosters a constructive labour relations environment by dealing proactively with issues and administers the provisions of the collective agreement.
  • Works closely with the Human Resources Department in assuming a strategic role in the delivery of human resource services and programs including employee relations, employee growth and development, occupational health and safety, succession planning, employee wellness and work-life balance and performance recognition and feedback.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • University degree complemented by a minimum of five years' relevant disability management experience and responsibility in a worker's compensation, insurance and/or benefits setting.
  • Past experience and demonstrated ability in effectively managing people and multiple projects is an asset.
  • This position requires strong analytical, interpretive and leadership abilities combined with strong communication skills.
  • A strong knowledge of the Workers Compensation legislation, policies and procedures as well as a firm grasp on the concepts and principles of workers compensation and how they apply in varying situations would be an asset.
