Job Description:

Reporting to the VP Product, Pricing, Underwriting, Governance & Control, Life and Health (L&H) TD Insurance, the AVP, Product, Underwriting, Governance and Control leads a team of experts in L&H and Creditor Products, Medical Underwriting and Governance and Control for the L&H function. The general accountabilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:

  • Own the TDI L&H Product design and planning including existing and new Product Design and Development, Revenue/P&L/margin responsibility (projections and analysis for all Life, Health, and Credit Protection Products, focused on delivering profitable growth, earnings and volume growth
  • Grow the L&H business: contribute to the development of strategic plans, business cases to create and modify product solutions to meet the insurance needs of clients.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal partners including Cards product, Retail, Wealth, GI, Phone & Digital, to support the development of collaborative solutions to service current and future clients.
  • Together with the L&H Distribution team, influence internal distribution and administrative partners to support on-going best execution and profitable sales growth.
  • Leverage ONE TD, Affinity, PCA, GI and Wealth relationships to develop and enhance our products and channels to support growth.
  • Support the execution oversight of approved strategic plans and business initiatives.

Underwriting

  • Oversee the underwriting function and their objectives, weighing in on complex cases.
  • Work with a variety of stakeholders to review, improve underwriting process to created capacity, speed and enhance automated underwriting and straight through processing capabilities.
  • Manage team optimization and collaboration with support for professional growth.

Governance & Control

  • Responsible to establish a proactive response co-ordination and implementation in accordance with TDI's business goals and risk appetite.
  • Proactively manage business risks, regulatory requirements, and competitive threats, in partnership with BOC and control partners. Lead change programs to comply with evolving regulatory environment.
  • Influence and meet regulatory and compliance requirements of our products through management of key risks & oversight of controls.
  • Champion awareness for Creditor products and Travel market trends and developments by intelligent analysis including active contribution on Industry committees to enable and influence industry changes (regulators, THIA and CAFII)

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Associate (ACAS) and Fellow (FCAS) designations
  • 10+ preferred years of experience in a senior actuarial role
  • Deep Insurance experience
  • Deep actuarial knowledge & an understanding of product pricing, underwriting and reinsurance.
