THE POSITION:
The Scotiabank Centre managed by Events East Group is now inviting applications for the position of Ice Crew (casual) with our Ice Maintenance team.
Reporting to the Head Ice Technician, the Ice Crew is responsible for working with the Ice Technicians to ensure the overall cleanliness and effectiveness of the ice is maintained. To perform the majority of the work associated with this role, the Ice Crew skates on a slippery ice surface. To excel in this role, a proficient ability to skate in front of a crowd safely is mandatory.
THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations:
- Be attentive to event needs, ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner and in consideration of events taking place throughout the building (i.e. noise sensitivities)
- Install and remove ice carpets, as needed.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the ice during live events by removing any obstructions or contaminants.
- Install and remove hockey goal nets and accessories during and between hockey games.
- Check for damaged goal nets and repair mesh, if needed.
- Prepare the Zamboni for resurfacing the ice by checking and filling liquids, and ensuring the auger is clean.
- Working with the Ice Technician, repair the ice during resurfacing by filling cracks, chips, or holes.
- Remove snow and water left over from the zamboni while it exits the ice surface.
- Working with the Ice Technician, chip ice as needed.
- Assist in the removal of the ice process, as needed by chipping out the ice.
- Assist in the installation of the ice surface, as needed by painting logos and lines on the ice surface.
- Other duties as required.
Health & Safety:
- Report all safety hazards to the direct supervisor as soon as is reasonably possible. Take action to correct the safety hazard if possible and reasonable.
- Report all incidents and near misses to the direct supervisor as soon as is reasonably possible. Participate fully in the incident and near miss investigation procedure.
- Promote, and follow all departmental standards and guidelines, job procedures, and equipment operation protocols to continuously ensure the safety of oneself, team members, and clients.
- Wear, use, and ensure the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required, report any issues or violations within the team or onsite to the direct supervisor.
- Report any damaged PPE to the direct supervisor, promptly.

THE PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Demands:
- This position is a casual role that has varying shifts, including mornings, days, evenings past midnight, weekends, holidays.
- Average shift lengths are approximately 6 hours in length but may run longer.
- Must own a pair of safe and functional skates.
- Must be able to skate proficiently in front of a crowd.
- Lift, push, pull, carry 50 pounds.
- Crouch, bend, twist, reach frequently.
