DUTIES

Reporting to the Manager of Operations, Office of Professional and Education Development, on an operational basis with a dotted line to the Assistant Dean of Admissions for academic basis this position will play a key role in supporting and developing the Faculty of Medicine's current outreach and engagement activities which include but are not limited to: Mini Med School, MedQuest, The Healers of Tomorrow Gathering, Discovery Day, SHAD, WISE, Science and Technology Fair and departmental tours as well as developing new initiatives and supporting departmental recruitment and outreach marketing. This position will also involve other types of community engagement that encompasses the needs of all populations and regions in NL including targeting youth in rural NL. This position will also be responsible for developing marketing and programming information as well as the tools to support these initiatives.

This position will involve the development, planning and scheduling of events in consultation with the Operations Manager and Assistant Dean of Admissions; including budgeting where required, developing programming and delivering outreach programs; identifying available assets and writing grant proposals to obtain funding for programs as required. This position will prepare and deliver material for external audiences which highlights the Medical Schools programs, initiatives and opportunities.

Duties include building and maintaining relationships with external program partners; understanding provincial junior and high school curricula and creating and delivering appealing programming for students, families, and community members; presenting information in a variety of formats to a variety of audiences; creating and distributing resource material for educators, events, and programs; developing and implementing a calendar of special events and public programming; coordinating the administration of all programs, including bookings and invoicing; supervising any seasonal students as required, working closely with volunteers that support the delivery of programing and special events; supporting faculty in recruiting, teaching and learning initiatives; evaluating all programs relative to the objectives and identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement; assisting with special projects including the development of new initiatives; working with communications to manage social media updates as required; and performing other related duties. This position may require some travel to all areas of the province and flexibility in working hours.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience (2-5 years) in public engagement and developing marketing and programming materials; graduation from a university program in science, education or business is required; an equivalent combination of experience and training may also be considered. Proven ability to represent a post-secondary institution or organization with tact and diplomacy while interacting with people of various ages, backgrounds, cultures and languages. Strong organizational skills, the ability to work as part of an integrated team and the ability to work independently is required with exceptional written and oral communication skills. Experience within an academic environment, and knowledge of university policies as well as writing grant proposals and procedures are considered assets.
