Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

  • The Manager Public Safety and Emergency Management is responsible for leading the development and execution of the NSCC Public Safety and Emergency Management portfolio. The incumbent will be accountable to support the execution of college-wide Public Safety and Security initiatives that provide safe and secure operation of NSCC campuses.
  • This position is responsible to maintain the college Emergency Master Plan and other related public safety procedures and programs. Ensuring campuses are prepared to respond to a wide variety of emergency conditions. It is expected the incumbent will have strong relationships with NS Dept of Justice, RCMP, multiple Regional Police services, EMS, local Fire Services, EMO and others.
  • As part of continuous learning, the incumbent will participate in local and international peer training and networking opportunities through organizations such as International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) and American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) International.
Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Law and Security Administration, Public Safety, Policing or acceptable equivalent, or graduation from a recognized police academy.
  • Possession of an Industry Certification in a recognized program is required, such as International Foundation of Protection Officers Certified Protection Officer (Internation Foundation of Protection Officers (CPO), Certified Protection Officer Instructor (Internation Foundation of Protection Officers), (ICPO), Certified Security Supervisor Manager - International Foundation of Protection Officers (CSSM / ASIS International CPP, PSP, PSI), Incident Command System Canada - Level 200 or higher
  • You have a minimum of 7 years of recent and related occupational experience leading public safety initiatives in a similar environment.
  • Demonstrated recent and related occupational experience managing security and safety operations in a multi-location or pan-provincial capacity
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and supporting a wide variety of investigations.
  • Extensive experience in developing and managing comprehensive public safety programs, including crime prevention, emergency management, and security technology.
  • Proficiency in the Windows environment, including the full suite of Microsoft Office software products and e-mail systems such as Outlook.
  • Experience with electronic safety systems including access control, CCTV, physical security and intrusion alarm systems, and Mass notification systems such as Status Solutions-SARA, two-way radios and other communication technologies.
  • Experience in leading investigations relating to a variety of complaints and conditions such as criminal activity, theft, behaviors of concern, sexual assault, etc.
  • Experience in developing and implementing Emergency Master Plans.
  • You possess a valid NS Drivers License.
  • Possession of a Valid CPR certification would be considered an asset.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience
  • You have experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation
