Definition of work:
The Nurse Practitioner is responsible to provide comprehensive assessment and care to clients. This is an advance practice role providing professional, analytical and an autonomous, comprehensive range of health services to clients including but not limited to health assessments and diagnosis of diseases, disorders, injuries and conditions; treating and managing acute and chronic illnesses and identifying health risks and needs within New World Island and surrounding areas. Optimizing alternate care modalities such as virtual technology will be an option to increase accessibility to primary health care in the region.
The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive and holistic nursing care to clients including health promotion, injury and illness treatment and prevention, supportive, curative and rehabilitative care in a family practice setting. The NP will provide advanced nursing care including health promotion and prevention and chronic disease management for common health issues in collaboration with physicians and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
As an advanced practitioner, the Nurse Practitioner functions in the roles of practitioner, educator and leader. As governed by provincial regulations, he/she practices independently, collaborating with the primary care physicians in the area for issues outside the Nurse Practitioner scope of practice. The successful candidate reports directly to the Director of Primary Health Care & Community Nursing. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Required qualifications:
• Graduation from a Nurse Practitioner program approved by Central Health.
• Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
• Current BLS certification.
• Demonstrated knowledge of home and community health services.
• Demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and problem-solving skills as well as oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work well independently and in an interdisciplinary team environment.
• A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver's License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.

• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
