Job Summary
The Laboratory Operations Manager is responsible for the efficient and effective planning, directing, organizing and evaluating of the operations of the Core labs (Haematology, Biochemistry, Histology, Pathology, Transfusion Medicine, Specimen Collection) and Point of Care in Rural Avalon sites of NL Health Services. This will be accomplished through strong leadership using participatory management style, effective management of human and financial resources and partnerships with internal and external services. Specific responsibilities will include evaluation of laboratory service; staff selection, development, motivation, and performance appraisal; and management of change in a dynamic environment. In addition to direct responsibilities for daily operations within the Core Labs at the Rural Avalon sites, the manager provides leadership to staff including operational issues in an integrated health service environment ensuring optimal efficiency and effectiveness while supporting the overall standards, policies, and direction of the Laboratory Medicine Program within NL Health Services.

Job Qualifications

Education

A Baccalaureate degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, technology or a related degree from a recognized/accredited post-secondary institution.

Completion of a recognized/accredited Medical Laboratory Technology Program.

Certificate course in Laboratory Quality Improvement/Management considered an asset.

Master's degree in the applicable area is an asset.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years' experience with the last seven (7) in clinical laboratory medicine including progressive leadership experience in a clinical lab environment is required.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

Knowledge and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of applications.

Current or eligible for registration with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science

Current or eligible for registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health professionals

A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required
