Demands, duties, qualifications
Applications are being accepted for the permanent full-time position of Regional Director of Surgical Program within Western Zone located at Western Memorial Regional Hospital. This position reports to the Senior Director Hospital and Clinical Services - Western Zone and is responsible for providing leadership to over 325 employees within the Surgery Program. This position is responsible for perioperative program for the zone, inpatient surgical care, including family and children's health, medical device reprocessing, and IPAC.
In collaboration with members of the interdisciplinary team and medical staff, this position will lead the promotion of excellence in patient care based on best practices. The incumbent is responsible for establishing an overall operational management and strategic directions regarding program's mandate to meet the needs of patients throughout the zone. The incumbent plans, develops, coordinates, integrates, and oversees the entire interdisciplinary team related to program areas and service delivery. This includes program vision, transformation, standards and best practice, as well as quality improvement through monitoring. This position functions with a high degree of independence and autonomy on issues that fall within the position's parameters.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership and facilitation skills in addition to strong evidence-based decision making, analytical and problem-solving skills. The successful candidate must also demonstrate expertise in the areas of quality improvement, risk management, resource management, and change management. Critical thinking and advanced problem-solving skills along with an ability to function with a high degree of independence are essential. A participatory, action-oriented, and high-energy transformational leadership style is required. The successful candidate must network and collaborate with various programs and multiple stakeholders in the zone and within the NLHS.
This position will create and model an environment that empowers individuals and teams. Critical thinking and advanced problem-solving skills along with an ability to function with a high degree of independence are essential. Demonstrated effective and innovative leadership is required. Applicants must be willing to travel as required.
A Master's Degree in Nursing, Social Sciences, or Administration as well as a current and valid Health Discipline Professional designation. Significant progressive leadership and management experienced are required, typically acquired through a minimum of five (5) years of management level positions.
In the event no suitable candidate is found with the above noted qualifications, consideration may be given to applicants who do not currently possess a Master's degree, provided they are willing to complete same within five years of appointment to the position. In this case, the successful applicant must be prepared to demonstrate proof of registration/enrollment to an appropriate degree program within the first year of appointment to the position. Furthermore, the successful applicant is required to provide annual updates based on the progress of each semester of the program.
