Position Details

Context: The Central Region maintains and supports all NL Housing rental properties in the Grand Falls and Gander areas, as well as delivering a variety of programs designed for low to moderate income households and homeowners. The region provides a wide range of services, including receiving and processing rental applications; administering rental accounts and lease compliance provisions; providing various client services and tenant relations; and monitoring, facilitating and administering property maintenance. Regional staff members are involved in the delivery of the Provincial Home Repair, Home Modification, Home Energy Savings, Partner Managed Housing, and Rent Supplement Programs.

Duties: This position provides direct clinical support to individuals in emergency shelters in the Central Region, as well as to those housed in the newly acquired Transition House in Gander. The incumbent will support the transition of individuals through the housing continuum, helping them acquire safe and stable housing accommodations. A primary goal is to improve health and social outcomes for individuals experiencing or facing homelessness and to reduce the average number of nights spent in shelters through successful housing outcomes. The incumbent will engage in case management services, including client assessments, housing plans, and participation in case conferences, while working closely with community and government partners such as NL Health Services, the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development (CSSD), Housing Support Workers, and Regional Collaborative Action Boards (CABs). This includes making referrals, coordinating supports, and providing consultative services to address barriers for individuals with complex needs or a history of housing instability. Additionally, they will assist in eviction prevention efforts, navigate government systems, and provide appropriate follow-up throughout the process. The position reports to the Regional Director, with indirect support from the Social Worker II (Team Lead) in the Community Partnerships and Homelessness Department and will also work closely with the Regional Program Supervisor, Regional Social Worker I's, and the four regional Housing Officers. Data collection related to housing stability goals will be part of the incumbent's responsibilities. Other duties as required.

Criteria

Screening Criteria:

  1. Completion of a Bachelor of Social Work Degree
  2. Experience in the provision of professional Social Work services
  3. Experience with community and government homeless serving systems (asset)

Assessment Criteria:

  1. Knowledge of professional social work practice and standards (including assessment/interviewing and debriefing)
  2. Knowledge of harm reduction and trauma informed practice
  3. Knowledge of homelessness issues and supportive housing practices
  4. Knowledge of eviction prevention techniques (asset)
