Demands, duties, qualifications
Reporting to the Food Operations Manager or designate, the primary purpose of this position is to prepare, assemble and serve meals for patients/residents/customers and to perform tasks related to food service.

Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or equivalency.

  • Experience in preparing or serving food.
  • Ability to learn and apply food values and therapeutic diets.
  • Ability to take directions and learn techniques involved in the safe use and care of food service equipment and kitchen utensils.
  • Ability to learn and apply safe food handling procedures/practices.
  • Ability to organize daily tasks while managing competing demands on time.
  • Ability to maneuver heavy carts throughout the hospital/home.
  • The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.
  • For Cook position, Cooking certificate is required

Duties: (Included but not limited to)

Prepare or serve beverages, snacks and meals for patients/residents/customers including, but not limited to, preparing ingredients, special dietary food items and main menu items.

  • Review patient/resident diet list/info and prepare individual meal trays & snacks in keeping with the therapeutic diets ordered.
  • Assemble meal trays/serve meals for residents/patients/customers including catering to functions within the organization.
  • Distribute and collect meal trays to and from floors.
  • Scrape and clean dishes and food carts. Operate and clean dish machine and other related equipment.
  • Clean/sanitize work areas, equipment and trolleys.
  • Fill food supply requisitions for hospital and/or LTC departments
  • May stock groceries on shelves and refrigerators, inspect goods and rotate stock.
  • Operate cash register as required.
  • Maintain general sanitation and cleanliness of department.
  • Maintain high standard of personal hygiene and follow all departmental policies/procedures pertaining to food safety and sanitation.

Perform other related work as required.
