The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Senior Draftsperson (Civil Structural) to join our Engineering and Studies team in Sudbury.
This is a permanent position covered under the Collective Agreement between Vale and the Local 2020-05 United Steelworkers.
As a Senior Draftsperson, you will provide complete drafting services for the design engineering team according to the Vale standards and safe operating procedures. The role holder reports directly to the Structural Engineering Superintendent.
Fieldwork includes site visits to various surface plants and mines. The purpose of the site visits is to make field observations and measurements.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Drafting – Creating, revising, archiving, and checking drawings under direct supervision of the engineer, site visits, field measuring, knowledge of codes and familiar with Vale standards.
- Safety protocols – Attending process hazard awareness reviews, attending and participating in safety meetings, using safety tracking software, performing and documenting safety audits.
- Task organization – Organizes the execution of the task relative to other tasks and job functions. Documents all relevant information pertaining to the task using project software, data bases, etc.
About You
Education:
- Graduate technologist in structural or civil discipline is preferred.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of previous drafting and design. The candidate must possess knowledge of 3D drafting.
Skills:
- Computer Skills: Vale Drawing Management System (jDMS), Microstation is preferred but AutoCAD is acceptable, SAP, and general knowledge with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Applicable Codes, Regulations and Industry Standards: Knowledge of CISC Handbook of Steel Construction , Knowledge of Vale drafting procedures, Knowledge of Mining Regulations O.Reg 854, CSA W59 and OBC.
- Drafting Skills: Must possess the ability to prepare technical drawings following industry standards, revise and check drawings, revise raster drawings and reserve and archive drawings.
