Job Description:

Department Overview

The Wealth Investment Office (WIO) team is TD Wealth's source for investment management and strategy. We empower advisors and portfolio managers across TD Bank Group's Wealth Management division — including Financial Planning, Private Investment Advice and Private Investment Counsel — by giving them the knowledge and tools they need to execute a scalable and consistent approach to portfolio management. WIO is a place for professionals who love to manage money and get excited about the opportunity to consult with others on how to build and manage investment portfolios. This is not a place for people stuck in neutral. WIO is a dynamic, multifaceted, multi-channel group working on numerous priorities and initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

The group provides holistic investment advice, portfolio construction, management and across a broad range of investment methodologies including traditional, endowment and risk-aware allocations. WIO is the engine behind the Wealth's investment strategy process and allocations. WIO also manages the Risk Priority Portfolios, Core Quant Portfolio, and the investment manager behind the TD Core Managed Equity Portfolio. In addition, WIO plays a role in the education and ongoing support of TD Wealth advisors through numerous internal and client-facing publications, as well as conferences, presentations, seminars and one-on-one communications to advisors.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting TD Wealth's Canadian advisors by leveraging a deep understanding of managed assets and fee-based platforms. Key responsibilities include:

  • Product Knowledge: Develop a comprehensive understanding of the firm's managed assets product spectrum and recommended managed products.

  • Portfolio Consultancy Support: Collaborate with WIO to deliver tailored managed investment solutions through the portfolio consultancy team.

  • Custom Solutions: Provide portfolio construction guidance and support for advisors seeking customized investment solutions.

  • Proposal Assistance: Assist in preparing Requests for Proposals and conduct thorough portfolio reviews for advisors.

  • Research Interpretation: Analyze managed product research from TD's internal investment manager research group to inform strategies.

  • Advisor Support: Serve as the primary contact for advisor inquiries regarding managed investments, offering insights and portfolio construction advice.

  • Data Analysis: Utilize Excel and other software to manipulate data from various sources, generating insights and actionable plans for advisor portfolios and business books.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Initial Response: Serve as the first point of contact for field inquiries and portfolio review requests.

  • Advisor Engagement: Address advisor questions and requests for information related to managed investments, ensuring prompt and accurate responses.

  • Training Involvement: Participate in advisor training sessions and branch presentations as needed to enhance advisor knowledge and support.

  • Proposal Support: Assist in the development and follow-up of proposals for managed investment solutions.

  • In-depth Product Knowledge: Acquire a thorough understanding of TD Wealth's fee-based and managed account platforms, along with recommended portfolio solutions, to effectively assist advice channels.

  • Consultant Assistance: Collaborate with Portfolio Construction Consultants by providing proposal support and following up with advisors.

  • Comprehensive Investment Guidance: Facilitate holistic investment management consultations, guiding advisors through a structured portfolio construction process.

  • Resource Application: Utilize WIO's tools and resources to provide managed investment guidance to TD Wealth's advice channels.

  • Support Broader Initiatives: Assist with WIO initiatives that extend beyond managed investments as required.

Education/Accreditations:

  • Degree: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field.

  • Certifications: Investment industry credentials (e.g., CSC, CIM) are beneficial.

  • CFA Designation: Completion of or progress toward the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is preferred.

Other Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • Industry Experience: At least 3 years of experience in the financial services sector.

  • Investment Acumen: Comprehensive knowledge of investment management principles, financial markets, and portfolio construction methods.

  • Managed Products Knowledge: Strong understanding of managed products, including mutual funds, ETFs, and SMAs.

  • Organizational Skills: Exceptional time management, prioritization, and organizational abilities to manage multiple deadlines effectively.

  • Communication Proficiency: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Interpersonal Abilities: Strong relationship management skills to effectively collaborate with team members and various departments within TD Wealth.

  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; familiarity with Morningstar is a plus.

  • Collaborative Spirit: Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Adaptability: Energetic individual who demonstrates initiative, flexibility, and a positive attitude in response to changing needs and challenges.
