Job Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

CUSTOMER

  • Ensure an integrated and aggregated view of all related activities across the overall function providing escalations, recommendations, and decision support to leadership
  • Forecast programs / initiatives and demand, and coordinate prioritization of the portfolio / initiatives with key stakeholders
  • Oversee / lead / manage and plan a work activity that may require alignment across multiple areas
  • Lead the team in the development and/or integrated implementation of policies / processes / procedures / projects /changes across multiple functional areas
  • Lead respective team for area of specialization with industry, external and internal, enterprise and business awareness; recognizing and anticipating emerging trends and; identifying issues and opportunities and recommending action to senior management
  • Act as a strategic partner by leading relationships with key enterprise partners and interfacing with respective leadership team to effectively manage own data governance / management area and clarify scope of accountabilities while influencing and aligning others as needed
  • Develop, communicate and implement a holistic strategy for own specific data governance function in support of and integrated with the overall business strategy
  • Establish the LOB framework and guidance for identification of critical data and critical data elements
  • Lead the governance and oversight of LOB data management activities, including metadata, data quality, data retention and disposition tasks
  • Establish a consistent approach to data issue management across the LOB, providing oversight to ensure data issues are prioritized appropriately and resolve in a timely manner.
  • Conducts day to day data governance and / or data management activities for their respective business or function
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the data governance / management function and play a key role in the development and implementation of strategies in support of the overall data strategy
  • Lead / support the business' Segment Data Council
  • Provide direction and/or input to complex, wide ranging enterprise or cross-function / business projects / initiatives as a data governance expert, supporting the inclusion of data driven considerations in all projects impacting the business or functional group
  • Plan, lead / manage and/or oversee a diverse set of work activities requiring alignment across multiple areas, including projects policies / processes / procedures / changes in across multiple functional areas
  • Lead partner to management / leadership and respective teams for area of specialization with industry, external and internal, enterprise and business awareness; recognizing and anticipating emerging trends and; identifying issues and opportunities and recommending action to senior management
  • Work effectively with multiple teams across a broad spectrum of initiatives and functional domains, influencing and aligning others as needed
  • Provide functional / business level communications to ensure messages to stakeholders and / or employees are consistent, appropriate and aligned to business risk strategies and executive management direction
  • Facilitate key discussions and provides thought leadership to executive audience on existing and emerging data related activities
  • Forecast programs / initiatives and demand, for own business
  • Support the identification of business data owners and business data SMEs for the LOB and ensure LOB adherence to enterprise data policies and standards
  • Plan / lead / manage and/or oversee set of work activities for the purposes of socialization and training of the LOB data governance and data management community on data policies, procedures, tools, and templates
  • Partner with the business to proactively prepare for internal / regulatory data-related requests
  • Develop processes to create timely, complete and accurate reporting to inform on areas of increasing data risk

SHAREHOLDER

  • Steward data in accordance with the Enterprise Data Policy, Standards and Strategy
  • Ensure team adheres to enterprise frameworks and methodologies related to overall business data activities
  • Responsible for the stewardship of data in accordance with the Enterprise Data Policy, Standards and Strategy and to ensure that teams adheres to the policy
  • Lead relationships with corporate and/or control functions to ensure alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements
  • Support team in staying knowledgeable on emerging issues, trends and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts to the Bank
  • Assess / identify key issues and escalate to appropriate levels and relevant stakeholders and business management where required
  • Identify, mitigate and report on risk issues per enterprise policy / guidance and ensure appropriate escalation processes are followed
  • Ensure business operations follow applicable internal and external requirements (e.g. financial controls, segregation of duties, transaction approvals and physical control of assets)
  • Lead relationships with business lines / corporate and/or control functions to ensure alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements
  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional / enterprise initiatives as an organizational or subject matter expert helping to identify risk / provide guidance for complex situations
  • Protect the interests of the organization – identify and manage risks, and escalate non-standard, high risk transactions / activities as necessary
  • Manage oversight process, risk-based identification and monitoring of related risks and regulatory compliance across the supported functions, while ensuring key controls and processes are effectively managed
  • Oversee or lead the facilitation and/or implementation of action / remediation plans to address performance / risk / governance issues
  • Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts
  • Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite
  • Contribute/participate in financial / resource planning process for their business

  • Contributes to the development of business segment and/or enterprise functional strategic priorities within their operational area or field of specialty
  • Develops annual and/or long-term plans for own area and influences plans well beyond area managed
  • Responsible for management of the overall team providing both leadership and guidance

  • Grow team expertise to align with business/enterprise demand and direction; assess team skills and capabilities and continually look for ways to provide and enhance the value delivered

  • Lead the process of setting performance objectives for the team; track, monitor and effectively address and/or reward performance in a timely manner
  • Manage employees in compliance with all human resources policies, procedures and guidelines of conduct
  • Share knowledge, information, skills, and subject matter expertise among the team and ensure the timely communication of issues and encourage good working relationships with other functions and teams
  • Support an environment where team freely escalates business challenges; facilitate change through positive reinforcement of milestones and successes

  • Provide people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
  • Retain knowledge of industry and practices, including any relevant accreditation and/or testing (internal and external), as required
  • Partners closely with Technology and other SMEs to drive the successful implementation of the business' data strategy for medium complexity data environments / initiatives
  • Responsible for supporting the delivery of activities within the business data strategy
  • Leads and manages a sizeable team of professionals and overall operation of a diverse group in an area of moderate risk, complexity or scope, while growing talent, developing skills and capabilities in line with evolving trends in the data governance / management space to achieve career goals, support project / initiative success and achieve business results
  • Ability to present and make recommendations to senior management and executives
  • Ensures an integrated approach with other business areas, broader organization, and enterprise as appropriate
  • Coordinates and prioritizes multiple initiatives and manages resource allocation
  • Establishes effective relationships with different Stakeholders, Business Sponsors, Executives and business
  • Provides support and contributes to the overall discipline and strategy for respective areas
  • Provides coaching, mentorship and guidance to practitioners, business, executives within area of expertise
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of businesses / technology, and organizational practices/ disciplines
  • Sound to advanced knowledge of external competition, industry and/or market trends in relation to own function / business
  • Focused on short to medium-term issues (e.g. 6-12 months)
  • Generally reports to a Senior Manager or executive role

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Undergraduate degree or technical certificate and /or
  • 7+ years relevant experience
