About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Professional Practice - Nursing for the Eastern Rural, Central, Western and Labrador Grenfell Zones, the Professional Practice Consultant (PPC) supports nursing professional practice within the Labrador Grenfell Zone. The PPC is responsible for the development, maintenance and evaluation of structures that support professional practice through a Professional Practice Model as well as the Professional Practice Nursing strategic and operational plans in line with NL Health Services' strategic direction.

The PPC develops and fosters collaborative relationships with frontline staff, Clinical Educators, Care Facilitators, managers and directors in programs/departments to ensure client-centered care and best practices are established. The PPC provides leadership and practice expertise to nurses and their leaders to improve health service delivery. They work closely with nursing staff and managers in areas such as orientation, accountability, workload, clinical documentation, research, resource allocation, outcome measures, advanced practice, continuing professional development, and advancing scopes of practice. The PPC works with a high degree of autonomy to lead practice change productively and professionally by critically analyzing and synthesizing large volumes of complex information. PPC leadership and expertise is shared with various councils, committees, and interdisciplinary teams. The PPC also liaises with outside agencies such as educational institutions, professional colleges/associations, and unions.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an approved school of nursing with a baccalaureate degree
  • Graduation with a Masters degree in a health related field
  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Minimum of five years of progressive clinical and professional leadership experience in Nursing
  • Previous management experience is required
  • Experience in the facilitation of team and change process
  • Breastfeeding course/education
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • A working knowledge of nursing professional standards, nursing policies, issues and trends
  • Proficient in the use of basic computer programs including Microsoft Office
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (CPR)
  • The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory Certificate of Conduct &
    Vulnerable Sector Check

  • Strong knowledge of Nursing professional practice issues and standards
  • Demonstrated clinical and leadership expertise, with a focus on quality patient/resident/client care
  • Demonstrated experience in building and enhancing effective partnerships
  • Excellent oral and written communication and change management skills

  • Travel will be required throughout the zone and the province
