Definition of work:
The Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) performs professional work in the provision of emergency and medical care to clients in a variety of settings. Work involves performing independent advanced medical care and intervention to clients at pre-hospital scene settings, during transport and within healthcare facilities. The ACP conducts physical examinations; performs comprehensive assessments and tests; interprets a variety of tests and procedures; and initiates a variety of advanced interventions. The successful candidate provides primary client care by surveying the emergency situation and taking any necessary action. The ACP is an integral team member of facility-based response teams including but not limited to the Code Blue Response team and the Code White Response team. The ACP also functions as a leader and a mentor within the paramedicine program, as well as a preceptor for advanced and primary care paramedic students. General security duties of buildings and facilities associated with the Regional Health Centre is a current duty and responsibility of Central Health paramedics. The Paramedic is an integral member of the Emergency Department team, providing care, based on their scope of practice to patients in the ER, in collaboration with nursing staff and physicians.

The Primary Care Paramedic provides effective and efficient emergency care and transportation of the seriously ill in a pre-hospital setting, while in transport to hospital, as well as in hospital. They also provide primary client care by surveying the emergency situation and taking necessary action. Primary Care Paramedics will have clinical responsibilities as outlined in the position description for the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre.

Required qualifications:
* Graduation from an approved Primary Care Paramedic program or Advanced Care Paramedic program accredited by the Canadian Medical Association.
* BLS Certification - both
* Current ACLS Certification - ACP only.
* Current certification in PALS or willingness to complete - ACP only.
* OPMD Certification (including all current courses/modules).
* NLPR Registration
* Current physical capability testing certificate (within the last 3 months) and continued responsibility to meet the minimal standards of physical capability as outlined in provincial policy.
* A valid Class IV driver's license issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
* A current driver's abstract from Motor Vehicle Registration.
* Successful Candidate will be required to be within 20 kms of the facility when required for standby.
* Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE)
* A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
* A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.

Preferred qualifications:
* Experience as an Advanced Care Paramedic - Or Primary Care Paramedic.
* Current NRP and ITLS Certification - ACP
