Job Summary
The Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist is responsible for performing a variety of technical laboratory and general radiographic procedures. These would include operating stationary equipment in the Diagnostic Imaging Department, preparing patients for examination, checking and maintaining x-ray equipment, collecting blood samples and/or other bodily specimens from inpatients and outpatients, preparing specimens and performing routine analysis of specimens manually or with the use of analyzers, and interpreting results and repeats testing if necessary. Performs other related duties as required.

Limited requirement to reposition/lift patients to and from x-ray table and from stretcher.
Constant requirement to stand for extended periods, to walk to and from procedures, to use machinery that requires very controlled movement, to operate hand tools that require accurate control, and to use fine finger precision movements when on computer. In some cases, there is limited freedom to move about.
Occasionally required to bend or stretch into awkward body positions.
Higher than normal levels of attentiveness are required for the health and safety of patients when performing tests and to ensure the correct interpretation of the laboratory or x-ray requisition.
Job Qualifications
Graduation from a recognized (accredited) program with a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or a degree in Medical Laboratory Science, supplemented by the successful completion of a Diagnostic Imaging Skills Program is required.
Current and continuing registration with the NL Council of Health Professionals as a General MLT is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
Please note: If there are no internal or external applicants that demonstrate the required qualifications, consideration may be given to an applicant who is currently enrolled in, or willing to enroll and complete a recognized/approved X-Ray Skills for Medical Laboratory Technologists program. The recipient of this education opportunity will receive financial assistance to help offset the cost of completing the program, and will be required to sign a two year (3640 hour) return-in-service agreement
