Demands, duties, qualifications

Duties:

  • Electronic documentation in patient/resident electronic medical record
  • Dysphagia management: primary swallowing assessments, writing diet orders and monitoring for diet texture appropriateness for patients/residents
  • Participating in interdisciplinary team meetings and patient rounds
  • Performing administrative duties necessary for outpatient services including: prioritizing referrals and booking appointments
  • Providing clinical advice and regularly communicating with the Food Service department
  • Participating in various hospital, regional, and professional committees
  • Recording daily/monthly workload statistics

The incumbent is required to possess nutrition expertise in a wide range of complex medical and psychological conditions such as gastrointestinal disorders, oncology and palliative care, dysphagia, renal, cardiac, obesity, allergies, eating disorders, diabetes, paediatrics, geriatrics and nutrition support.

Qualifications:Graduation from an approved university with a Bachelor of Science Degree and major course work in Foods and Nutrition, Dietetics or Home Economics and completion of an approved one-year internship program or equivalent is required. Must be a member of the College of Dietitians of Newfoundland and Labrador.
