Legal Aid NL is an innovative legal aid plan that responds to the needs of low income persons by promoting access to justice through the provision of quality legal assistance for criminal, family and some administrative law matters. Services are provided through a staff based delivery model via the twelve full service offices and five project offices in the province.

We are currently seeking an Accounting Clerk II to fill a permanent position with our accounting team in the Provincial Director's Office. The successful candidate will report to the Finance Manager and will be a member of a team responsible for performing a number of legal, administrative and human resources support functions within in the Accounting Department.

The Accounting Clerk II is responsible for a variety of financial accounting work in relation to Legal Aid's financial management system (Sage) including entering and editing a high level of invoices ensuring policies, procedures, and controls are followed; preparing payments for release as required; preparing journal entries and accruals as necessary; reconciling and verifying invoices for payment; procurement and purchasing; administrative work for human resources and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, regulatory agencies, suppliers, vendors, clients, and the general public; assisting with knowledge sharing, mentoring and training of co-workers and new employees as requested; preparing reports for management as needed. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications for this position are normally acquired through completion of two-year Business Diploma Program combined with 2 - 4 years of relevant experience in an accounting role. Other combinations of related experience and training in financial accounting may be considered. Proficiency with Sage 300 or other accounting software and a general knowledge and understanding of accepted accounting principles is required. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point. The successful candidate must also have the ability to process a large volume of transactions with excellent attention to detail, and a high degree of accuracy. Experience in payroll processing would be as asset. Candidates should also have demonstrated ability to organize work, set priorities and meet deadlines is a must as well as the ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing work environments and competing demands.

The successful applicant will be required to provide a Certificate of Conduct with Vulnerable Sector Check prior to commencement of employment.

Employees of the Newfoundland and Labrador Legal Aid Commission are covered under the Provincial Government Pension Plan and Health Plan. An optional Dental Plan and Disability Plan are also available. The salary range for this position is $44,662.80 - $49,431.20.
