Purpose

The Audit Manager contributes to the overall success of the Audit Function in support of the Audit Department, Credit Risk Audit Group executing its global mandate, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives.

Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • Champions a client focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

  • Acts primarily as Team Participant or may in some cases as an Officer-In-Charge (OIC) on assignments of low to medium complexity for assigned projects, processes, and units.

  • Ensures Scotiabank standards and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Code of Ethics are maintained in completion of all assignments.

  • Executes assigned audit activities independently as a team member under the direction of the Officer in Charge (OIC) or Audit Principal, on assignments. This includes completion of audit testing, discussions with management and documentation of work performed.

  • Stays informed on emerging risks, regulatory changes, and industry trends. Conveys risk-related information to Officer-in-Charge or Audit Principal and senior management.

  • Participates in audit projects with effective time management and organizational skills. Executes, plans and reports on the assigned audit projects. Obtains a thorough understanding of the business/unit/process and associated risks, develops risk-based audit planning documents / procedures, and schedules timing and resources. Prioritizes activities in audit projects based on risks and tasks assigned in a timely manner.

  • Delivers the end-to-end execution of the audits and ensures the nature and extent of testing is appropriate to support the objective, scope, and overall opinion. Completes timely review of workpapers, ensuring internal control weaknesses are clearly documented with recommendations addressing the root cause and are communicated timely to management.

  • Ensures audit results are gathered, determines the root cause of the problem and the associated impact and reports accordingly. Reviews/edits reports and summarizes issues. Presents an overview of the audit results and findings to line management.

  • Ensures audit reports are written to a consistent high standard and are finalized within established department metrics.

  • Executes agreed upon procedures for specific projects or investigations of a low to moderate complexity and/or confidential nature. May assist other audit staff in more complex projects that Audit may be requested to perform. Plans, documents, and seeks agreement in advance to the project approach and confirm conclusions upon completion in writing.

  • Participates in collaborative efforts across teams, ensuring alignment toward shared objectives and driving collective success.

  • Understands how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education/Experience

  • University/Post secondary degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or equivalent.

  • At least 2+ years relevant experience.

  • Knowledge of commercial corporate banking and/or credit adjudication is preferred.

  • Proficient at applying risk-based auditing standards, practices, techniques, processes and methodologies to performance and review of audits.

  • Working knowledge of the operations and regulatory environments of each of the audit units globally, as required for specific areas of assigned responsibility.

  • Ability to execute multiple projects at any given time.

  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) to work with staff and effectively communicate risk-related information to management at various levels.

  • Adopts a risk-based approach to planning and execution, leveraging data analytics, technology, and innovation.

  • Good people management and coaching/development skills.

  • Good analytical skills and proficiency in the use of data analytic or visualization tools to obtain the right data, organize it, and analyze for patterns to provide risk insights and enhanced assurance.

  • Curiosity mindset that includes asking questions, challenging the status quo, and engaging with diverse points of view.

  • Ability to work in high levels of ambiguity and in a rapidly changing environment.
