Through a new, innovative partnership with Nova Scotia Health (NSH), we are opening the first transitional care center in our province, in West Bedford. Shannex is the operating partner for the transitional care centre on behalf of Nova Scotia Health. You will have an opportunity to work in a facility with a purpose and design dedicated to providing care to NSH patients in central zone, who no longer require hospital care, but need services before they can safely return to their home and community.

We are searching for a Chauffeur to join our new Transitional Care Centre team based in Bedford, Nova Scotia.

The Chauffer provides transportation and exceptional service to patients. The Chauffeur provides these services ensures compliance with applicable local, provincial, and federal safety regulations and traffic laws.

The transitional care model supports NSH patients/families who require additional time, services, and support to transition back to home/community, by providing an alternate space with intentional programming, building design, and resource allocation to increase the probability of returning to their previous living situation.

Key Duties & Responsibilities Include:

  • Transporting new patients to the facility from another facility or community.
  • Transporting patients to appointments or outings??
  • Greet and meet all patients with a smile and an offer to assist.?
  • Assist patients with unloading packages and opening doors.?
  • Ensure patients are not kept waiting.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of respecting patient's rights, including respecting others, maintaining confidentiality, promoting independence, respecting privacy, respecting the right to refuse services and involvement.
  • Communicates with the facility's team if there is a noted change in the medical status of the patient e.g. increased confusion.
  • Provides assistance to patients as required with entering and exiting the vehicle, mobility aides/devices e.g. canes, walkers; carrying parcels or other items, opening doors and entering buildings.
  • Maintains contact with the facility's team regarding transportation pick-up and drop-off times, changes to schedule, etc.
  • Participates as a member of applicable facility and organization committees as requested.
  • Performs general cleaning and upkeep duties for the vehicle(s);?

Requirements Include:

The selected candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy, current registration with the provincial licensing body, and a minimum of 5 years nursing experience. You will be service minded, results oriented, and positive towards change and innovation. You will be a team player who works collaboratively to deliver results and also have the ability to work autonomously. In addition, the selected candidate will have:

  • High School diploma or equivalent education completed;??
  • Clean driving record with a Class 5 driver's license;?
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR Certification;?
  • Knowledge of the federal, provincial and municipal safety and traffic laws and regulations;?
  • Superior customer service skills;?
  • Strong patient focus and a positive attitude;?
  • Demonstrated ability to interact positively with others;?
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;?
