Purpose

Generate thoughtful and actionable insights relating to competitive intelligence and product analytics across the Scotia Global Asset Management platforms under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Competitive Intelligence & Product Analytics. Focus on executing bespoke analytical support to assist our independent distribution partners. The successful candidate has a keen interest in the investment industry and demonstrates a very high willingness to learn with a proactive and positive attitude.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

Product Analytics (70% of role):

  • Utilize Morningstar Direct and similar investment analysis applications to execute time-sensitive product analytics to support our independent distribution partners (including the Dynamic wholesaling team, systemized solutions team and other teams) and promote positive advisor engagement.
  • Analysis includes product comparisons, portfolio construction scenarios, income simulations, as well as more complex customized requests.
  • Contribute to the development of ad-hoc product positioning reports in response to major industry developments and participate in cross-functional asset-gathering strategic initiatives.
  • Provide technical support and training for the Morningstar Report Portal online tool.
  • Lead conversations between internal stakeholders in communications with third-party data service providers.

Competitive Intelligence (30% of role):

  • Assist in gathering and consolidating competitive industry information and help generate competitive intelligence reports for a wide array of audiences
  • Clearly and concisely communicating the "so what" from various pieces of analysis to diverse stakeholder groups. Set a high benchmark for timeliness, quality and accuracy.
  • Analyze large and disparate internal and external datasets, leveraging strong technical skills and business intelligence tools to prepare data for use by senior members of the team and related departments
  • Proactively identify areas for automation and continuously review, challenge and propose solutions to streamline incumbent processess to increase efficiencies and team capacity.
  • Be at the leading edge on industry developments and the competitive landscape through timely review of internal and external press releases and other media

Enterprise-wide:

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • University degree in Business or a related discipline. Progression towards CFA designation would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated track record of resourcefulness, flexibility, strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of the investment industry with a minimum 2 years of related experience, preferably in analytical roles.
  • High proficiency in MS Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint)
  • A keen interest in the asset management industry with demonstrated interest in competitive trends, product strategy and financial markets. You are highly curious and have a desire to continuously deepen industry knowledge and business impact.
  • Technically savvy, with a solid foundation in data analytics, experience using various data and research platforms such as Morningstar Direct is highly preferred
  • You embrace technology to improve the quality, quantity and reliability of reporting, insights and recommendations to empower business decisions.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to synthesize large datasets and summarize key insights and recommendations from the data
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, with a high degree of accountability. You thrive in a team environment and take a proactive approach to tackle any challenges or difficulties. Can-do attitude is a must.
