Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Compliance Monitoring Program, the Senior Manager, Monitoring Governance & Analytics contributes to the overall success of the central Compliance Monitoring team in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. They will also ensure that all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Responsible for overseeing the implementation & coordination of the Monitoring & Surveillance Program
  • Support efforts to strengthen monitoring program and oversight capabilities
  • Lead efforts to document and update the Compliance Monitoring policy, standard, and procedures
  • Support and coordinate the development of processes to assess the design and operational effectiveness of Monitoring activities
  • Assess the monitoring and surveillance controls across Business lines and identify the key priority capabilities to be implemented
  • Supports implementation of the target operating model (including. methodology, people, process, tech, data) for the priority monitoring and surveillance capabilities
  • Utilize analytics and insights for aggregated monitoring results to analyze existing capabilities and identify any patterns, themes or trends in compliance controls that may indicate weaknesses or gaps which requires additional enhancements
  • Partner with Compliance Subject Matter Experts ("SMEs"), Technology/Digital Experts, Data Specialists and Process Engineers to help deliver the monitoring program
  • Accountable for delivery of all project phases and related key decisions for the Monitoring Program
  • Lead initiatives and deliver long-term sustainable impact by leveraging deep Monitoring expertise.
  • Support Monitoring teams by providing visionary direction and decision-making, identifying and prioritizing tasks, clearing issues, and reviewing project deliverables
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to build partnerships, create a shared vision and commitment for transformation and effectively communicate deliverables to all stakeholders.
  • Support the design and implementation for oversight on monitoring processes, and work to identify opportunities to harmonize AML/ATF monitoring activities with compliance monitoring activities.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We'd love to work with you if you have experience with:

  • Business experience within Compliance function & having 3+ years' specific experience working within Monitoring / Surveillance programs either in a 2nd line or 1st line role
  • Experience with large transformation in areas related to Monitoring programs/ Surveillance
  • Strong analytical & reporting skills (e.g. statistical analysis & PowerBI will be an asset but not required)
  • Driven and results oriented with proven track-record of leading change in previous roles
  • Led large teams and end to end delivery for the global financial institutions
  • Experience with both business and technology implementation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Enthusiastic leader; with ability and desire to help others thrive in a team-oriented environment
  • Deep passion in developing a leading, best-in-class Compliance function
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred
  • Holding relevant certification will be an asset but not mandatory (e.g. CSC, CPA, CFA)
