Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

The Applied Research Program Manager (ARPM) will be responsible for a wide range of operational and research related activities in the Applied Research Office, such as managing faculty-lead research projects, supporting grant applications, and representing NSCC Applied Research to external/internal stakeholders. The RPM will report to the Director of Applied Research and will work with the Director to support Research Scientists with project management and administration, including liaising with industry partners and connecting with internal stakeholders, such as communications, facilities management, and information technology teams. Support with grant applications will also be part of this position.

The ARPM will work collaboratively with Research Scientists on developing and tracking project milestones and ensuring funding continuity that aligns with the applied research strategic plan and enhances strategic sector development. The RPM may liaise on behalf of the researcher with various external partners, leveraging their background in research, science and/or technology. Responsibilities will include oversight and management of applied research infrastructure including maintenance and leasing. The RPM will build connections between the applied research teams and NSCC campus management teams and faculty members to support the success of research scientist-led projects, faculty-led projects, and to support increased student research across multiple campuses.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a university degree in a research relevant field (e.g. science, engineering, social science, information technology, business).
  • An MBA, Masters, or PhD in a related field is considered an asset.
  • A relevant professional designation such as Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Project Management Professional (PMP), or Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) is considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of five (5) years of recent and related occupational experience in a program management, grant management, or research administration in an institutional setting (e.g., post-secondary, government).
  • You have demonstrated experience in research environment, specifically experience managing research projects, with a comprehensive understanding of grant application processes.
  • You have knowledge of project management principles and practices, as well as process development and project management.
  • Your work experience includes collaborating with a diverse team of subject matter experts from a variety of fields, all with different priorities and goals.
  • You possess a solid understanding of applied research and related contractual agreements, funding parameters, proposal writing, reporting requirements, legal implications (e.g., intellectual property) and documents will be considered an asset
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, MS Teams, land project management tools such as Microsoft Project.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience
