Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

The Manager, Applied Research - SEATAC is responsible for the organization and development of NSCC institutional research projects and processes within Applied Research's Technology Access Centre: SEATAC. This includes a financial management approach across a diverse range of student, faculty, and staff projects, including those which respond to industry as a means of developing Nova Scotia's economic and social infrastructure.

The role involves managing multiple projects, meeting tight deadlines, providing technical support to the team, and delivering projects on time and on budget. This position leads administrative, contract, and grant funding activities, particularly for new funding programs. The incumbent participates in research-related activities awarded to NSCC in conjunction with other staff, including research financial oversight, granting-agency reporting and compliance, planning and management of research projects, formulating, writing and editing proposals, report preparation, and representing NSCC Applied Research - SEATAC to external/internal stakeholders on an as-needed basis. This position includes activities related to the management of NSCC Applied Research - SEATAC funding, from pre-award to post-award processes, and involves interpreting and implementing regulatory guidelines. The Manager, Applied Research - SEATAC will lead special project activity to establish, support, and optimize financial award and contract management for the SEATAC team.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant area related to research administration, such as Business Administration, Management, Commerce or other related field.
  • A Master's or PhD would be considered an asset, as would Project Management Certification.
  • You have a minimum of five (5) years of recent and related occupational experience in in a program management, grant management, or research administration in an institutional setting (e.g., post-secondary, government).
  • You have demonstrated experience in research environment; specifically experience managing research projects, with a comprehensive understanding of grant application processes
  • You possess supervisory/management experience leading a team in a high volume and dynamic environment
  • Your experience includes strong focus on financial management through the development of proposals & budgets
  • You possess knowledge of project management principles and practices, as well as process development and project management.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, MS Teams. Prior experience with corporate ERP/accounting software is considered an asset.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.
