JOB PURPOSE

This registered nurse works in a clinical leadership role across all areas of nursing practice (hospital and community) by: facilitation of nursing policy and procedure development; the implementation, evaluation and revision of nursing practice standards; the provision of complex practice analysis and consultation; the delivery of education and in-servicing and the conduction of nursing quality improvement projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active registration with the Nurses' Association of New Brunswick.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent clinical practice experience.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams to lead and drive change.
  • Demonstrated understanding of evidence-based nursing practice.
  • Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Well-developed presentation skills and demonstrated experience in providing education sessions to adult learners.
  • Proven ability to lead projects and develop/implement new policies and standards.
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Physical ability to carry out required work, including travel throughout Horizon Health Network.
  • Good work record and demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Using evidence-informed approach facilitates the nursing policy and procedure process within the Moncton area and collaborates with other areas in Horizon Health Network to enhance regional consistency.
  • Takes the lead writing general nursing practice regional policies and procedures as assigned.Acts as a resource to others writing nursing policy and procedures. Facilitates working groups developing regional consensus for nursing policy and procedure development.
  • Coordinates the implementation and evaluation of nursing standards within the area.
  • Facilitates the resolution between divergent positions to align practices with standards.
  • Articulates the importance of and utilizes change management strategies to facilitate successful adoption of nursing standards and policy in the area as evidenced by change in practice.
  • Participates, as a standing member, in the Horizon Nursing Standards and Policy Committee and participates as a member and/or leads committees, as approved by the Regional Director of Nursing Practice.
  • Develops, provides and evaluates education and in-servicing to nursing staff in relation to standards, quality improvement initiatives to nursing staff in relation to standards, quality improvement initiatives and nursing practice.
  • Acts as a consultant for nursing units that do not have direct nursing supervisors and as a nursing practice resource for all nursing staff and leaders.
  • Acts as a consultant and provides support to managers in the development of action plans to address significant clinical practice issues and ensures action plans are developed in alignment with regulatory body standards of practice, entry level competencies, and organizational policy and procedures.
  • Identifies areas for improvement by monitoring trends in nursing care and develops and/or facilitates development of programs, processes, policy and/or standards to address quality gaps.

Reporting Relationship:

This position reports to the Regional Director of Nursing Practice.

NOTE: The above are basic responsibilities; related and allied duties may be assigned as necessary to support the operations of the Professional Practice Nursing Department and the Regional Health Authority.
