As the Manager, Mortgage Credit Controls, you will be part of the Mortgage Account Governance Structure in Real Estate Secured Lending (RESL), driving ongoing mortgage file reviews, both proactive and reactive to control testing, with the goal of identifying weaknesses and strengthening underwriting controls and processes. You will play a key role in strengthening our first-line of defense across the Real Estate Secured Lending group.


Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Be responsible for end-to-end mortgage file investigations, critically assessing the underwriting process to uncover the drivers of potential gaps to policy
  • Synthesize these findings into themes and perform the necessary root cause analysis
  • Design enhanced controls and work with partners across the RESL team, technology, global operations and global risk management to implement
  • Lead the end-to-end remediation effort should a defect be identified on a mortgage file, ensuring the file is corrected, in good standing, and the customer experience is improved
  • Track the status of file reviews, key findings and account remediation, synthesizing this reporting into a monthly dashboard for senior executives
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
  • Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Post-secondary education and experience working in the financial services industry
  • Significant knowledge of end-to-end real estate secured lending process from origination to underwriting to funding to servicing, and related policies
  • Full understanding of Scotiabank's real estate secured lending strategy, key priorities and how they fit within the strategic agenda of the Canadian Banking division
  • Critical thinking and innovative skills with a track record of driving results
  • A comprehensive understanding of key internal stakeholders, the Bank's organizational structure and operating model
  • Strong business strategy and financial acumen
  • Comfortability working in a hybrid work environment with the expectation to work in-office 3 days per week
