The Provincial Librarian for the Law Society of New Brunswick is accountable to plan, organize, lead and control all operational aspects of the Law Society province-wide library system and to ensure professional library services fulfill the mandate of the Law Society and are consistent with the standards of the Law Society. In addition, the Provincial Librarian is responsible to provide advice and counsel to Executive Committee, Council and the Provincial Libraries Committee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Plan, develop and manage an integrated province-wide library system that fulfills the needs of the legal profession and the mandate of the Law Society of New Brunswick.
  • Develop and execute the provincial libraries annual budget based on strategic direction by Council and the Provincial Libraries Committee.
  • Develop and recommend provincial library acquisition, collection, reference and service delivery policies and processes to the Provincial Libraries Committee/Council for approval.
  • Organize an integrated library system including networked electronic resources.
  • Oversee all acquisition functions, processes and staff.
  • Develop and manage the ordering, organizing and cataloguing of the libraries collection.
  • Monitor, evaluate, recommend and implement emerging library technologies.
  • Create and implement a system to identify and digitize resources within the Law Society Library's collection for purposes of preservation and enhanced accessibility.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with publishers and vendors, and act as liaison to other libraries within the system regarding acquisition policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate licensing agreements, assessment of compatibility and other cooperative collection development activities for all electronic products.
  • Ensure relevant and efficient library reference services that include manual and electronic media.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate degree (MLS and MLIS).

• Minimum seven years' experience in a law library or equivalent specialized library.

• Proven ability to organize, develop, maintain a library and to deliver comprehensive library services.

• Demonstrated ability to develop and administer library policies and programs.

• Proven ability to manage and develop library collections.

• Highly developed communication skills, both verbal and written, in English and French.

• Knowledge of automated library and information-management applications.

• Excellent research and analytical skills and the understanding and use of ICT.

• Knowledge and experience in computer-assisted legal research.

• Familiarity with document and records management methodologies;

• Strong analytical and decisive leadership skills.

• Strong member relations and service delivery skills.

REMUNERATION: $3,602 - $3,941 bi-weekly (commensurate with qualifications and experience).
