About the Role

Reporting to the Manager of Recreation and Culture, the Recreation Program Coordinator is responsible and accountable for the ongoing planning, development, implementation and evaluation of all sport, recreation, active and healthy living and leisure programs offered by the Town for people of all ages and abilities. This position will work in cooperation with community groups and agencies and Town policy to ensure that a wide range of opportunities are provided across the community without duplication or barriers, and a priority on those who are less active and underserved.

This position also:

  • Develops and delivers program content for the seasonal Recreation Guide which requires coordination and collaboration with other Town staff and municipal partners to fully represent seasonal activities and opportunities. This includes being responsible for providing content to the online registration platform, Connect 2 Rec.
  • Collaborates between community recreation partners to ensure complementarity of programs and avoid duplication of efforts to better meet community needs.
  • Recruits, supervises and evaluates instructors and volunteers involved in the delivery of Town-led initiatives and programs, including seasonal program staff.
  • Ensures instructors and volunteers delivering Town programs are adequately trained in all areas of program delivery (1st aid, EDI training, rule of two, duty to report, etc.). Responsible for instructor training and management of their employment contracts.
  • Monitors current budgets and assist in the development of annual budgets related to recreation programming and initiatives;
  • Gathers data for budget and performance measures to meet program objectives, including participation rates, financial targets, and satisfaction.
  • Prepares regular reports for Advisory Committees of Council, as required; and
  • Assist with grant writing for applications and reporting.

Education:

  • Post secondary education in Recreation Management, Leisure Studies, Community Development, Arts & Culture or related field.
  • A combination of education and experience providing the required competencies will also be considered.

Experience:

  • Two (2) years experience working in recreation programming or community development, including program development and implementation administration and supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and implementing recreation initiatives and programs.
  • Experience in interacting with the public in small and large groups.
  • Demonstrated general knowledge of municipal government operations is an asset.

Certification:

  • First Aid/CPR (to be provided by employer).
  • WHMIS (to be provided by employer).
  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion training.
  • Accessibility Training (Rick Hansen, for example) is an asset.
  • Subject to periodic security checks, as involves work with children and seniors.

Terms and Conditions of Employment:

  • Non-union, permanent, full time (35 hours per week)
  • Location office shall be the DesBrisay Museum or Town Hall
  • Museum is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 1 - 5pm (September - June) and 9am - 5pm (July - August).
  • Town Hall is open to the public 8:30am - 4:30pm.
  • Work outside of regular office hours is required to meet operational demands.
  • Annual Salary - $65,962 - $84,477
