Computer Support Technician
Position: Three (3) Full-Time Positions
Position Status: Temporary
Salary Scale: CG-27 bargaining unit position ($25.48 - $27.16 per hour)
Location: To be determined - An NLSchools work site
Closing Date: October 17th, 2024 at 12pm
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Manager, Information Technology, the Computer Support Technician performs technical work in the administration of a local area computer network including hardware, software, and the provision of support to end users. Specifically, these three (3) positions will be dedicated to the support of users accessing a Government of Newfoundland and Labrador web application. The successful candidates will be members of the broader NLSchools - Department of Education Information Technology team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyzes operating problems in both hardware and software, and develops and implements changes to rectify the problems.
- Responds to user requests.
- Performs help desk functions and may provide either on-site or remote technical support.
- Provides computer consultation, advice and services to staff.
- Provides training to end users on the use of new hardware or software.
- Provides telephone and online support to departmental projects.
SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE:
- Minimum: 2 Year post-secondary Diploma in Information Technology or a computer related field.
- Minimum: 1 to 2 years of experience.
- Ability to maintain computer systems and networks.
- Ability to provide technology support.
- Strong client service, analytical, interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills. This includes:
- the ability to listen to information and ask questions to diagnose and resolve the client's concerns/problem,
- provide expert advice and complex information to guide a user through the problem-solving steps,
- provide direction to others in the use of software or hardware
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Ability to work as part of and to contribute to a cohesive team.
