Position Details

Context:

The Labrador Region maintains and supports approximately 250 NL Housing rental properties in the areas served by an office in Goose Bay and a sub-office in Labrador City. The region provides a wide range of services, including receiving and processing rental applications; administering rental accounts and lease compliance provisions; providing various client services and tenant relations including eviction prevention, and monitoring, facilitating and administering property maintenance. A variety of programs designed to support low to moderate income households and homeowners are also delivered. Regional staff members are involved in the delivery of the Provincial Home Repair, Home Modification, Home Energy Savings, Partner Managed Housing, and Rent Supplement Programs.

Duties:

The successful candidate will engage with tenants and apply NLHC's eviction prevention framework to achieve the goal of maintaining stable housing. In completing this work, the incumbent will provide individualized support to tenants in the form of tenant action plans, as well as maintaining ongoing follow-up activities such as telephone calls and home visits. The Social Worker I will provide unplanned, crisis response for clients experiencing complex needs, mental health and addictions, and will undertake Victims of Family Violence Assessment for the assigned transition house. The incumbent will work with tenants on an ongoing basis to build capacity to be independently successful. This includes the assessment of client needs and providing connections/referrals to a variety of community groups, government agencies and health authorities. The Social Worker I will help clients navigate systems required to improve their own mental health and well-being, while maintaining stable housing, as well as participating in case conferences and maintaining correspondence with various medical, para- medical, and government departments. In addition, this position provides Community Development support to assigned community centres by attending quarterly program development committee meetings and ensuring compliance with funding guidelines for quarterly grants and special funding. Written reports and recommendations are prepared in keeping with the documentation standards of the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW). The successful incumbent demonstrates accountability and effective resource management by documenting and compiling monthly statistics in a quantitative and qualitative manner. Other related duties may be required.

Criteria

Screening Criteria:

  1. Completion of a Bachelor of Social Work Degree
  2. Experience in the provision of professional Social Work services
  3. Experience in community development (asset)
  4. Experience in the delivery of non-profit housing (asset)
