Job Title: Shop Manager

In partnership with Meridia, our client, a well-respected and expanding trucking company, is seeking to add a Shop Manager to their team in Colchester County, NS. This position, reporting directly to the General Manager, will play a crucial role in overseeing shop operations and ensuring the optimal maintenance and performance of the fleet.

Role Description

As the Shop Manager, you will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the maintenance shop, ensuring that all repair and maintenance tasks are performed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company standards. This role involves leading a team of mechanics and technicians, overseeing workflow, managing inventory levels, and upholding high standards of quality and productivity.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and supervising mechanics and technicians, assigning tasks based on priority and skill level.
  • Training and mentoring team members, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Overseeing and participating in the diagnosis and repair of trucks and trailers, ensuring timely maintenance.
  • Conducting regular inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Ensuring all maintenance and repair work meets company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Performing quality checks on completed work and addressing any issues promptly.
  • Scheduling and prioritizing repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Maintaining accurate records of work performed and parts used.
  • Coordinating with the General Manager for efficient workflow and resource allocation.
  • Monitoring and managing inventory of parts and supplies, ensuring they are ordered and stocked as needed.
  • Maintaining accurate inventory records.
  • Promoting and enforcing a safe working environment.
  • Ensuring compliance with OSHA and other safety regulations.
  • Conducting regular safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Communicating effectively with drivers and other departments regarding maintenance issues and repair status.
  • Addressing and resolving concerns or complaints promptly.
  • Maintaining detailed records of maintenance and repair activities.
  • Preparing reports on shop activities, performance metrics, and any issues encountered.
  • Assisting in developing and updating maintenance policies and procedures.

Your Qualifications include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in automotive or truck maintenance is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in truck maintenance and repair, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.
  • Proficient computer skills for maintaining records and reporting.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of maintenance and repair tools and equipment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of DOT regulations and safety standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training and development programs.
  • A valid driver's license; CDL preferred
  • Additional considerations:
  • Work is performed in a shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and machinery.
  • Occasional outdoor work may be required.
  • Candidate must be able to stand, walk, and work in various positions for extended periods.
