Responsibilities of an EAL Tutor Include:
- Plan, organize, and deliver language small group activities connected to learning targets as outlined in EAL Progress Chart
- Address all aspects of language and communication using a broad range of appropriate techniques and strategies that develop each studentâ??s ability to read, write, speak, and listen, recognizing different strengths and interests of students
- Maintain and complete ongoing accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth using EAL Progress Chart
- Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and promotes positive behaviours
- Adapt to adjusted scheduling based on changing demographics and student needs to maximize student achievement
- Attend all ASD-W EAL Tutor Professional Learning sessions when scheduled.
- Other related responsibilities as required.
Qualifications: EAL Tutors must be approved by ASD-W HR
It is desirable for applicants to have experience in:
- Working with people from diverse cultures and languages
- Teaching or tutoring EAL in multi-cultural, multi-leveled, and/or multi-aged contexts
- EAL qualification (CTESL, CETLA, etc.) would be an asset.
- Degree in field related to English language instruction would be considered an asset.
